Client proposal;
Identify the clients needs:
Gap travel requires a marketing product so that they can advertise their company/services to young
people who are taking a period of time out to explore the world thats around them and to become
more adventurous. It needs to be produced on CD ROM and is to be titled Things to do before
youre 30 and it has to contain a list of activities you should do before youre 30. The ideas have to
a wide range of activities to do e.g. places to visit, activities and adventures. The product needs to
target both males and females between the ages of 16 and 30, also once the list of 30 is completed,
at least 15 of them need to be developed onto the final interactive product. A logo is required for
GAP travel and for the main product itself, storyboards, scripts, and many other creative techniques
need to be used. Storyboards will also need to be produced for a splash page, a contents page and
two individual sample pages. The product should also include a close button so that it can be closed
easily and hassle free.
Advanced features:
-

Text (Font size, colour, examples to be put on a mood board at a later date)

Background (Free choice, needs to be put on a mood board)

Videos (At least 2 w/controls, size is important, no longer than 5 seconds)

Animations (At least 2 that I have created, GIFs dont count) - Flash, Director, Photoshop.

Navigation (Easy to use for all users, must be able to move backwards and forwards e.g.
Home and contents)

Buttons (Any suitable software, can create them or use some from the internet, look at the
colour size and positioning)

Close button (Must have, consider a home button)

Sound (Video, music needs controls to turn on and off)

Storyboards (splash page/opening, contents page, sub content page and sample page)

Navigation chart (has to be user friendly, needs to be grouped backwards and forwards)

Logo (Has to be suitable)

Consideration of the target:

The target audience is based both on males and females,-so it cannot be directed at a specific
gender-and needs to be between the ages of 16 and 30 years of age. This means that anybody
looking at the product will find it useful because anywhere out of the age range wouldnt be viable
as it based on Things to do before youre 30

Market research on similar sites:
Research is to be done on sites that serve similar purposes (e.g. similar audience targets) this will
give me an idea as to what competition is out there and then I can create a product that is able to
compete against these companies. I will need to look at the sites and take in depth motes as to what
works well and what doesnt. This will then help my product to be more successful and making my
client happy.

Details of the layout:
The layout will require a lot of thought and will need to be planned with a storyboard and/or
sketches before it is actually created. It needs to look professional but needs to attract the users
attention. Once the sketches are completed, they will have to be viewed by the client to ensure it
fits their purpose. And also to make sure it doesnt have to be redesigned over and over.

Both designs are clear and look simplistic. They are easy to navigate and the user would be able to
use it easily, stress free. The logo is there but discreet, this will represent the company without
ruining the overall professional look of the design. The headline/slogan will be at the top on both
designs so that the user will spot it instantly, the slogan will be catchy so that it is noticeable if it is
ever seen again. There will be a large image on both designs, this will show the user what there is on
offer e.g. Skydiving. There are three different navigation buttons on each design, this leads for easier
navigation around the whole thing.
Graphics/Background:
The graphics used will be copy right free and of activities and destinations, they will be copyright
free so there will be no legal issues. There will be no cartoon style images- Except the logo because
the website is aimed at people between the ages of 16 and 30, if there were to be cartoon style
graphics then the website wouldnt come by as professional but childish instead. If the page is
displaying information about a certain activity then there will be an appropriate image to match it
e.g. white water rafting would have an image of white water rafting and not bungee jumping. On the
main pages there will be an image of a landscape/landmark as the background. The images will look

Professional as they are being put onto a professional product. Other graphic that will be used will
be sharp and rectangular e.g. other additional graphics.

Fonts:
Only two fonts will be used, one for headlines/titles/sub-headings and one for the main body of the
text. The main body of text will be simplistic to make it easier for the user to read it, whereas the
headlines/titles/sub-headings can be more vibrant and outstanding so that the user notices it and
reads it.
Headlines/titles/sub-headings;

1.
2.
3.
4.

Gap Travel- Forte

Gap Travel- Lucida Calligraphy
Gap Travel- MV Boli
Gap Travel- Ravie

From the 4 different Heading texts, I will use MV Boli as its simple and looks professional.

Main body:
1. Main Body- Dotum

2. Main Body- Lucida Handwriting

3.
4. Main Body- Kalinga
From the 4 different Main body texts, I will use Myriad pro as its easy to read and still continues
with the professional look.

Colour scheme:
The colour scheme will be light colours, so that its not too heavy on the eyes. The reason I have also
done this is because the main body of text needs to be readable. The colours will be blues, reds,
oranges and greens because they are soft colours. The text will be black so that it is readable, but
this also depends on the final background decision. The background will have to be similar to the

colour scheme so that it doesnt end up looking messy and unprofessional. To keep it simple I will
only be using around 3-4 colours.
All multimedia elements of the product:
There will be a small paragraph of information on every area on the product, this will be to persuade
them to do some of these ideas. There will also be images on every area of the product, this will give
the user an idea of what it is like.
Logo:
The logo will include an image of the sun and will have the company name incorporated into it, the
logo has yet to be decided upon and may change as it approaches the final product. Here are some
ideas;

I have decided to go with a plane flying around the earth style logo, I feel that it will promote travel
and adventure more than a logo that incorporates the sun into it. The plane will be silhouetted and
will be above the earth, the text will run over the earth and will be in bold text. I feel like this logo
idea is appropriate and it will attract the attention of the viewer and will easily be remembered.
