All about me PowerPoint: (When the student makes theirs)
The student will draw and write to create a PowerPoint layout that
includes the picture and label of 5 favorite items; pictures and titles of
3 favorite books; a sentence and picture to match 3 prompts.
Word Test:
The student will lists of words from the Benchmark Word Test until they
score 18 or less correct.
Sorting Activity
The student will sort pictures into correct categories getting 14 out of
16 correct.

Creating Community Guidelines


Anticipatory Set
Ask students how they learn
Ask students to use how the learn to help create guidelines for
helping them learn
Ask students how being respectful to their neighbors can help them
learn
Tell students we will work together to come up with group guidelines to
help us and all the students around us learn.
Instruction
Talk to students of how I will respect their time and I would like them to
respect mine.
Show the students the poster that I will be writing the guidelines on.

Ask students to give me guidelines that we will use to respect each


other and the other students.
Write students ideas on the poster
Read over the whole poster for a final time and ask if everyone agrees.
Closure
Ask students why we need to be respectful
Ask students if they can practice all our new guidelines while I tell
them more about me.

Anticipatory Set
Left of having students practicing their new guidelines while I review
my PowerPoint.
Tell students I will tell them about myself and then we will talk about
how I will get to know them
Instruction
Use all about me power point and tell the students more about me
Tell students During the time I am here we will periodically work on
your all about me power point.
Tell students that they are going to help me become a teacher and I
want to learn more about them.
Closure
Ask each student to tell me one thing that they learned about me from
my PowerPoint.
Word Test
Anticipatory Set
Review with students that I am there to learn how to teach.
Tell them that I am in school just like them but that I need their help to
learn how to teach them better.
Tell students that the words they will read to me will not be for a grade
but that I need to learn how to give tests.
Instruction
Read introduction to test and mark off as students get their words
After the child has missed 18 words or less let them stop and move on
to their individual activity. (working on their all about me PowerPoint)
Closure
Ask the students how they thought I did with their test.
Ask students if there is anything I could have done better or different.
Sorting Activity
Anticipatory Set
Remind students again that they are helping me know more about
them and how to teach them
Ask students What does it mean to sort something.
Discuss sorting and what kind of things people can sort.
Instruction

Spread out shapes in an area that all students can see and reach.
Demonstrate with 2 or 3 shapes how I have sorted the shapes into
categories of what the shape is.
Discuss any other way we could sort our cards
Let students each have their own set to sort however they would like.
Closure
Ask students if there are any kinds of things they like to sort
Talk again about what other things they could sort.
Word Search (Extra Activity)
Anticipatory Set
Ask students if they have ever done a word search before
Explain how a word search works and how to find the words
Instruction
Point to letters in the search and see if the student will recognize that
there are words in the search.
If needed help student find one word to show how to look for the words
in the search
Closure
Talk with the students about the first day with them and tell them that I
am glad to have met them.
Tell them when I will be back and let them know that we will have more
fun activities to do next time I come.
