Rationale:

- Teachers area: at the front so that


o I can always easily see what/how all my students are doing
o I have easy access to the chalkboards and SMART Board
o Students can see me (or other students) when I (or others) are using the document camera
- Learning centres: permanent places where I can put useful challenges/learning activities
o Students can go to these when they are finished their work to continue learning
- Walls:
o Word wall at the front, on top of the chalkboards and SMART Board
o Strategy charts and homework chalkboard placed above learning centres (as reminders)
o Student work corkboards at the back to celebrate their work and show diversity
o Window on the left to see the outdoors (changing weather, connection with nature)!
- Desks: square for easy rearrangement into small/large groupings or rows; direct view of chalkboard
- Back shelves: to house materials that students may use throughout the day (pencils, rulers)
o Sink for use during science experiments, art classes, etc.
- Carpeted area: more cozy environment for students
o Independent reading area or designated whole class activity area
o Movable whiteboard for teacher to write on or post up relevant posters
o Corkboard to include sign-out pocket chart and other posters relevant to reading
o Foam seats (like the triangles you can lean on) for comfy support
- Computer desk: in case any student needs to perform research or a science (Gizmo) activity
o In front of teachers area so that the teacher can easily glance at what theyre doing
o Beside reference materials for easy connection-making
o In a group of 4: can become a learning centre when needed
- Left shelves: to house reference materials and books
o Easy access for both teachers and students
o Featured materials on top of shelves for students to take note of / use
