Classroom Management Plan
*Preamble
Classroom management is extremely important to a classroom environment. Without
behavior management it is very hard for any teaching or learning to get done. I really like the
idea that the teacher is the orchestra leader and is to direct the students and not think for them.
This requires that the teacher has effective instruction as well as procedures. Students need to
feel like they are in a safe and caring environment but they also need to know the rules and limits
and know what consequences there are. With these limits students will feel more secure and will
be better able to learn.
Classroom management doesnt mean that I as the teacher will always expect perfect
behavior but it does mean that I am prepared for when things go wrong. It means that I am
flexible and willing to work with the students but still stick to rules and procedures. As long as I
am prepared and can have a good relationship with my students the classroom behavior will be
better and will help the students.
*Preventive Techniques
There are many preventive techniques that can be put into the classroom to help the
students be on their best behavior and be better able to learn. It is very important to me that there
is a positive classroom environment. To make sure that this occurs at the beginning of the year I
will make sure that I know all of my students names and that they know what their stuff is. I will
also make sure that they know that I know that they can learn. I will give them praise where they
deserve it and help them know that they are important to this classroom.
I will also work on building my classroom as a community and help the students to
become a team. Once a month I will have team building activities like building towers, getting
the whole team across the line, and human knot. The students will learn to work together and
know that each person is an important part of the group. I will also make sure that there are set
rules that they know so they cant say bad things about others and their ideas without a
consequence.
In my classroom there are also class jobs. These arent given until at least a month after
school has started so that students have the opportunity to get to know their classmates and I can
tell who would be best for the job. If the class is able I will allow them to vote for class
president, vice president and secretary. If they are not able I will assign them. These are to be
changed every quarter so that I have three students participate each quarter. The president and
vice president will decide on who does the class jobs each week. They will also take turns
leading the class morning meeting and discussing what we are doing for the day and leading the
pledge of allegiance. The class secretary will take attendance every day and is responsible for
helping pass back papers.
We also have many class jobs that are changed weekly. These jobs are:
Table helper: This is one student from each table that is in charge of getting the supplies for the
table (such as paper, scissors, glue, etc.)
Messenger: This student when needed will take messages or papers to and from the office or
other teachers.
Pencil Sharpener: This is the student responsible for making sure that the pencils are all sharp
and put into the appropriate bin.

Garbage Helper: This student at the end of the day makes sure that all the garbage bins in the
class are emptied at the end of the day.
White Board Eraser: This student is responsible for erasing the white boards and making sure
they are clean at the end of the day.
Door Holder: This student gets to be at the end of the line and makes sure that the doors is
closed when we leave the classroom.
Class Journal Writer: We have a class journal that this student writes in to keep track of the
different activities we do that week.
Current Event Reporter: This student writes about one current event that happened the week
before and they report it to the class. We then have a class discussion on the event.
The first day or two of class we will work together to make the classroom rules and
illustrate them. They will then be laminated and put onto the wall where the students will sign a
paper agreeing to follow them. This piece of paper will be referred to as they break the rules and
as a reminder that they have agreed to follow these rules. The rules that my class came up with
during the 2015/2016 school year were:
1. HYFOOTY: Keep Your Hands Feet and Other Objects To Yourself
2. Dont talk over other people
3. Respect yourself and others
4. Be honest
5. Stay on task
6. Participate in all class activities
7. Play fair
To be able to help my students with following these rules I have two methods: the clip system
and table points.
Clip System:
With the clip system there are seven different areas that students can be at. They all start on
Ready to Learn and they have the opportunity to go up or they can go down. If they land on
Super Student or Remarkable Roadrunner they will receive prizes. Super Student = one road
runner ticket and Remarkable Roadrunner = two road runner tickets.
If they go down then their consequences are as follows:
1. Warning Verbal
2. 5 Minutes Time Out (recess)
3. Lose Entire Recess
4. Time Out Move to Another Seat
5. Think and Change Time, Move to Another Classroom
6. Send to Office
Table Points:
On the side of the whiteboard there are the different colored tables and a teacher label. As
each table is behaving they receive a point. If they are exceptionally good I give them the
opportunity to shoot for an extra point. If the whole class is not following direction and being
noisy instead of taking away points, the teacher gets points. At the end of the week the table with
the most (or the teacher if she has the most) gets a prize. To know which table they are at they
have a colored pencil box and a laminated paper with the color on it on top of their desks.

*Supportive Techniques
To be able to help my students with their behavior I will make sure that I circulate the
room as often as I can. I will have more of my students writing on the whiteboard and I can be
circulating the room.
As students become off task or are talking to their friends I use proximity and get closer
to where they are so they are aware I notice and they get back on task.

*Intervention techniques
When behavior becomes very bad with a lot of talk outs or out of seat behaviors I will
create a behavior contract with the student. I will also get the parent involved with calls and
letters home.
Just as explained with my clip chart these are the consequences and chances the students
get.
1. Warning Verbal
2. 5 Minutes Time Out (recess)
3. Lose Entire Recess
4. Time Out Move to Another Seat
5. Think and Change Time, Move to Another Classroom
6. Send to Office
When students are in for recess we will have a one on one conversation to see how they feel
they can find a solution to the problem. I will have them come up with their solution first and if
that doesnt work than we will try my solution.
*Procedures
Student work: The homework assignments are written on the back board and they have to
place them on their planners. They are do the next day and are to be put into the homework bin
by my desk. If they are late assignments they go into the late bin by my desk.
Lining up: In the classroom they line up in alphabetical order, by last name, along the
wall with the cupboards. The person at the end is the door holder for the week and will make
sure that the door gets closed every time you leave.
Restroom breaks: Students have to ask to go using the sign language b and only during
individual work time, not during whole class instruction, unless its an emergency.
Students may also use the restroom during recess.
Pencil sharpening: I have a person who sharpens the pencils at the end of the day. If the
students need a sharp pencil they are to put the dull pencil in the box and grab a sharp pencil
from the bucket. They are not allowed to sharpen their pencils while working.
Drinks: Students must ask using the sign language d to get a drink. They get a drink
from the sink in the classroom NOT the hallway. They are only able to get drinks during
individual work time, not during whole class instruction.
End of day: Students are given the last ten minutes of class to get their backpacks from
their lockers and to clean up from their work. They need to check underneath their desks for any
garbage and have their chairs on top of the tables. They are to stand behind their chairs until
dismissed to line up. Then I will walk them out of the building.

*Communication with Parents/Guardians

To be able to communicate with my parents I have a classroom website where I put up
pictures of what we are doing in class. I also have my planners that go home every night and is to
be signed by the parent. If I have a comment for them I put it in the notes/comments section on
the students planner. I also call the parents when there are problems occurring in the classroom.
