Main Article: (Description of the resource/tool? What does the resource do? How
does it work? How did you like it? What are the advantages and limitations?)
The Storyboardthat is an online story maker for educators and students to create
visuals, graphics with the text in a story format. Users can create stories using the
images tool which has numerous scenes, characters, taxtables, and shapes which
users can choose among and create a story. It also allows you to upload images or
pictures form your own resource which makes it very easy to use for classes like
social studies, math and science besides ELA. The website gives free trial for two
weeks and has price set according to number of students not teachers.
The usage of the website is easy; you start with choosing the scene, adding the
characters and typing in the text you would like to include in your story. You can
save the stories and edit them when you needed. The website allows you to create
a classroom and assign students projects that they can work at home and teacher
can see and grade.
The website gives chance students to create their own story or summarize literature
work in a fun way; assignment system and portfolio help teachers to see all student
work in soft copy. It helps students to lessen amount of time and work that they
spend on preparing visuals to prepare a topic, book, story or event.
I think that it is very practical to use it for ELA classes, but another presentation
program or software can do the same work for other classes. It is not a website
which is offering unique features for students. I also think that, the price is too much
for the program. Educators can find similar websites with free access.
Educational uses and applications for Education/classroom: (How could this
app be used for education?
It has lesson plans for all elementary classes, middle and high school ELA, social
studies and world history classes. It enables teachers to benefit from ready to use
common core aligned lesson plans and materials as instructional material.
Teachers can assign projects such as book report individual or group work, or social
studies, science or math project that students can easily prepare without having
any difficulty to use visuals. It is more fun for students to prepare projects using
technology instead of using poster boards, easier to submit their assignments.
Pros/Advantages: (Short sentences, brief information)
It is more fun for students to use such a website to prepare projects, it has a lot of
images that will let students and teachers create their unique stories, it allows to
save the stories and edit it later if necessary.
Cons/Disadvantages: (Short sentences, brief information)
It is expensive.
Summary:
This website helps teachers to set student access to create online stories as projects
and assignments. Teachers also can use this website as instructional tool as well. It
let students and teachers to choose among hundreds of pictures and upload images
if necessary to create cool stories. It is fun to use for students and facilitates
learning. I found the price expensive for the program. It could be replaced by
another online program which lets users do similar things.
