Topic: How does divorced effect ones life and family?

After divorce, many relationships change. Severing a marriage allows each partner to go his or
her way and to begin anew. Their path may involve a new job, different housing, a new network
of friends, and finding a more compatible partner. And for better or worse, other family
dynamics also change. For example, custodial parents and their children, especially their
daughters, often become very close, while on custodial parents and their children can sometimes
drift apart.
There are many paths after a divorce. Some adults, feeling angry or betrayed, swear they
will never marry again while others desperately look for mates toward off loneliness or financial
difficulties. A quick look at the status of adults ages 25 to 44 shows that a significant number are
in a second or subsequent marriages or are cohabiting. Generally, finding a new partner after a
divorce, or repartnering, is the most important factor in improving life satisfaction for both men
and women. Women, in particular, gain financially from repartnering. In fact, on average, the
financial gains women make from repartnering outweigh the benefits of reentering the labor
force after divorce or increasing their working hours.
