topickatopicthathadtodowithspace.Ourgroup'stopicistheSpaceRacetothemoonduring
theColdWar.TheSpaceRacecausedagreatadvancementintechnologyanditallowedhumans
totraveltothemoon.
Whenwebeganourresearch,wewerelookingforarticlesaboutthebigideasofthe
SpaceRaceanditsmissions.Onceweunderstoodourtopicbetter,webegantodevelopan
argumentandfocusinonspecificideastoresearch.Weusedprimarysourcestounderstand
moreofwhatpeoplethoughtoftheSpaceRaceatthetime.Aswegotfurtherintotheproject,we
decidedwhatourargumentwasandbegantoorganizeevidence.Wecreatedaroughdraft
websiteandputourthoughtsinorder.Afterreceivingfeedbackfromourroughdraft,we
reorganizedourargumentlayoutandrewordedourthesis.Weaddedcauseandeffectdiagrams,
interactivelinksandpicturestoconveyourargumentinamoreinterestingway.Werealizedthat
democracyandliberalvaluesallowedAmericatowintheSpaceRace,whichhelpedthemwin
theColdWar,andrealizedthatthatwaswhatwewantedtofocusonasourargument.
Ourgroupdecidedtocreateawebsitetopresentourproject,whichwechosebecauseitis
funtodesign,easytoorganizeandeditchanges.Weorganizedourprojectbytheeventsand
missionsthathappenedduringthespacerace,andbythereactionsandperspectivesoftheUnited
StatesandtheSovietUnion.Wewantedanappealingwebsitethatprovidedinteresting
informationforviewers.
IntheColdWar,thepostWorldWarIIpowerstrugglebetweentheUnitedStatesandthe
SovietUnion,thehostileencountersbetweenthetwocountrieswereshownthroughtheSpace
Raceasaproxywar.Theyusedproxywarstoprovethateachwasthesuperiorcountry,andto
gainglobalpower.TheSpaceRacestartedsothatthecountriescouldprovethesuperiorityof
theirvaluesusingpropaganda,andtodevelopbettermilitarytechnology.Theirdifferent
governmentstyles,theU.Shadliberalvaluesofdemocracyandcapitalism,theUSSRhad
traditionalvaluesofcommunism,resultedintheU.Sdevelopingagenuineinterestinspace,
alongwiththepropagandabenefits,whiletheSovietUniononlyworriedaboutpropaganda,
whichledtheU.Stolandingthefirstmanonthemoon,winningtheSpaceRace.America's
liberalismallowedforNASA,foreignscientists,andaflowofresourcestosupportanddevelop
thespacetechnology.TheSpaceRaceissignificanttodaybecauseofthedevelopmentof
changedrelationshipsbetweentheSovietUnionandtheUnitedStates,theideologyshiftto
mostlydemocracyandveryfewcommunistcountries,andscientificdiscoveriesaboutthe
universeandnewtechnology.
