What Are They?

Steroids are drugs taken by athletes for the purpose

of increasing muscle growth and therefore
improving performance levels.

They can be taken in pills or injections over a

certain time period.

Do They Work?

There is no study that fully supports the

claim that simply taking steroids will
improve ones performance or will
enhance ones skill level.

This is a highly debated topic; however,

visually, steroids have an impact.

This impact does not go without

consequence.

What Are the Side Effects?

Steroids can cause violence, irritability,

liver damage, and heart problems
including enlargement of the heart

Abuse of these drugs can even be fatal,

tumors can grow and cause cancer
along with a dangerous hormone
imbalance.

The rupturing of these tumors can

cause internal bleeding also leading to
death.

Then Why Do People Take

Them?

Athletes use steroids with the intent to increase their

performance level and increase muscle growth.

With so many professional athletes using steroids,

younger children are beginning to become influenced as
well.

Ex) Lance Armstrong, David Ortiz, Marion Jones

Conclusion

These drugs have a negative image in the world of sports yet

athletes continue to use them because of the perceived effects.

The increased use of steroids is having a negative effect on the

youth.

There are more negative side effects than positive effects that
come out of steroid use.

Athletes who use steroids look in the mirror and see the progress;
however, they can not see the damage these drugs have caused
to their insides that will hurt them in the long run.

Steroids are not worth the risk.
