In this paper I conduct systematic inquiry skillfully in the form of a fantasy theme

analysis. I take an album that is deep in context and meaning and narrow it down to a
specific song that I believe represents a collected fantasy theme of a group or culture.
This song is called Hood Politics.
The systematic inquiry comes in when I take the song and try to evidence how it
displays a fantasy theme. I use theory such as symbolic convergence to further strengthen
my point regarding what Kendrick is trying to say about the African-American
community. I present the idea of who the hero is in the fantasy theme and then evidence it
through lyrics in the song to strengthen my point. I proceed to do this with the villain
within the narrative as well furthered by evidence.
This is a great example because it shows my ability to do systematic inquiry
through a different lens than my group project I did in research methodology my
sophomore year. For this, I have to do systematic inquiry through an untraditional (or
should I say a method I am unfamiliar with) lens. This lens is the fantasy theme. I was
very unfamiliar with fantasy theme before I had taken Communication Criticism and I
think this provides, although a little flawed, a good example of my progression in
attempting to take on the fantasy theme perspective and see the systematic inquiry that
can be done to see clearly what all the elements there were of it in the song I selected by
Kendrick Lamar. I selected it because it shows how far along I have come and adaptive to
different theory and different perspectives in where I would need to execute systematic
inquiry. There is not a whole lot of research shown for this particular paper but for the
purpose of displaying my growth in getting to the point of breaking down ideas, I think
this is a perfect example.
