The Thing that Never Changes

"What's the point of all this?" I thought as I strapped myself into one of the
many orbital drop pods in this ship. *Bing*
"How great. The 'Commander' is going to grace us with what is potentially
the last speech we will ever hear."
*LADIES AND GENTLEMEN. RIGHT NOW YOU ARE ABOUT TO EMBARK ON
WHAT IS POTENTIALLY YOU LAST HOURS IN THIS UNIVERSE*
"You don't know what happens after death old man."
*NOW I KNOW THAT NOT ALL OF YOU SIGNED UP FOR THIS ORDEAL, YOU
WERE DRAFTED INTO THIS, BUT EVEN IF YOU WERE WE THANK YOU FOR YOUR
SACRIFICE FOR THE GREAT SPACE AMERICA! GOODBYE SOLDIERS! AND GOOD
LUCK* "The 'Great' Space America eh? This damn superpower is nothing more than
a joke, a scam to the rest of the planets in our galaxy." *SOLDIERS PREPARE FOR
ORBITAL SHOCK*
"Looks like it's the beginning of my end." I put my helmet on as the count
down for orbital shock started.
*Ten*
"War never changes."
*Nine*
"No matter what century, whether it's the 6th, 21st, or even the 31st century,
war always stays the same."
*Eight*
"Although, that isn't completely true. The weapons have changed at least." I
thought as I looked at my semi-automatic photon rifle.
*Seven*
"But all in all, the basics of war are still the same."
*Six*
"War is always for something. Whether it's to gain something or to get
revenge on someone. It's always for something."
*Five*

"I've been in this business for ten long years and never had I felt good about
shooting another living creature down."
*Four*
"I'm making this my last fight. I don't care if I founded the Drop Shock
Division, this is the last time I'm dealing with all of this."
*Three*
"I've seen way too many people die. Good sons and daughters shot, stabbed,
blown up, and eroded away right in front of me."
*Two*
"God. If you do exist, take care of the soldiers that I failed to protect, please.
They were good people with big hearts, but this world wasn't kind to them."
*One*
"I am Lieutenant General Washington of the United Planets of America
Air/Space Force, and today I'm going to die for my country." I said as the countdown
hit zero.
My soldiers and I were released from our pods and our free fall began.
"First rule of thumb is to land feet first, the anti-gravitational shockers in out
boots will make the fall extremely cushioned."
The 'air' in the upper atmosphere of the Jawa home world whipped past my
body as I plummeted down. The atmosphere started to do its job, and soon a cone
of fire surrounded my body as the velocity of my descent increased.
Can it get any hotter on this already tropical planet?
The mini super computer in my helmet turned on as soon as I had gone past
the most difficult part of the atmosphere. *Diverting Lt. General Washington to
coordinates 41.2500 (degrees) N, 96 (degrees) W*
Thank you Tracey. I said to the A.I.
"The time is nigh. Its my turn to join this war."
I landed in my zone with a loud thud.
"Poor fools didn't know what they were up against." I said as I saw the half
melted bodies of fallen soldiers.

"We won't let the Jawan Empire to take what's most important to us." I
thought as paid my last respects to the dead soldiers. A Jawan soldier popped out
from the bushes behind me and shot its acidic spit. The spit bounced off my armor
and landed on the ground with a fizz.
"Sorry bud, you'll have to try harder than that if you want to kill me." The
Jawa screeched and started to spit at me again, but was dead before it could even
gather enough saliva. *Sigh*
"Some people just don't listen." I said as I lowered my hand, still hot from the
nuclear laser.
"We won't let you acidic bastards take our sun away from us." I said as I
kicked his dead body and made my way to the rendezvous point.
