Week 3 MGMT 410

1. What were two occupations O*NET found that fit your skills, interests, and experience
level desired? Provide the details regarding the following.
a. Name of the occupations (Cargo and Freight Agent, Logistics Manager)
b. Do you agree that you would be good at or like either of them? If yes, why? If
no, why not? Explain using your skills, experience, likes, and interests as
support for your answer. Yes I would be great at both of the following occupations
because one of them I already done and the other one I currently do now. I have
been in the freight forwarding industry for the past 12 years and have gained a lot of
experience and hands on knowledge in this field. I started out in the warehouse
environment handling material loading containers, and cargo sheets to be tendered
to the airlines. From there I moved over to the system side of the process and started
preparing export documentation so goods can be cleared and delivered at whatever
destination. Now I run the entire export department for Orlando, Jacksonville, and
Tampa. I found that I really enjoy getting things from point a to point b and the
challenges that comes with that leads to a lot of variety throughout the day or work
week so you never get bored. My biggest project to date is the exportation of a
wooden roller coaster from Florida to Qing Dao China for an amusement park
corporation that is located in China by the name of Fantawild.
c. What states offered above-average opportunities for the position? (List up to
three. Colorado, California and surprisingly Arkansas
d. What was the average salary listed for the occupation? The US average was
$85,400 the 3 states that was above average had Colorado at $95,100, California at
$86,700 and Arkansas at $88,200
2. As an HR professional, how could O*NET be useful in conducting a job analysis?
Explain specifically how you would use the data from this site to assist your
organization. As a HR professional the first thing I would use this site for is to see how
much or what range the salary should be in. This site gives you national and state by state
averages so you can make sure you are being competitive in the market place and
appealing to top talent. I can also look at the work styles that have been successful for this
occupation and use that information to try and identify character traits in candidates that are
similar so that it increases my chance in selecting the right person for the job. I would also be
able to use this information to create a job description, requirements, education level, and or
previous experience and skills needed to perform the job I am listing.

Week 3 MGMT 410

3. Name two things you learned about job analysis and/or the job you reviewed that you
did not know before reviewing this website. I learned that 87 percent of the respondents
have at least a bachelors degree so I know employers will be looking for this educations
requirement in the market. The second thing I learned is that there is projected to be over
29,000 job openings in this field between 2012 and 2022 in the state of Florida. The growth
is slower than average but that is still good.
4. Will you utilize this website in the future when looking for jobs or hiring employees?
Why or why not? I will most definitely use this site in the future. This site has tons of
creditable information that I can use to compare and negotiate base salaries. It is also a
great tool to see if your character traits, skills, strengths, and system knowledge is applicable
to given jobs that you may be interested in. You can see if you may need more training in a
particular field or certifications that may be a benefit for you. You can also know what not to
waste your money on since there are a lot of certifications and gimmicks out there trying to
make a dollar off of you that the industry might not see as being in demand. Great site and
homework assignment for this week as I had no clue that this site ever existed but its
already saved in my favorites now.
