Course: EDUC 240- Health and Physical Education for Teachers

Brief Description: For this assignment, I completed a reflection paper summarizing the various
resources available from the Ruth Lilly Center. Students will state how the information provided
by the center could enhance Health and Physical Education class in the future.

Rationale: To demonstrate my understanding of standard #8, Instructional Strategies I observed

different techniques on how to teach children understanding of physical education.

Reflection:

The Ruth Lilly Center is located at Marian University. Their mission is to provide inspiring
health education through innovation presentations. They give services to as young as three years
of age and elementary up to high school students. They have programs for different grades such
as general health, drug education, human growth and development, bullying and violence
prevention, and disease prevention. The information provided by the center can enhance health
and education inside the classroom by making children aware about physical and health
wellness. Starting educating children about all these topics provided can prevent many causes of
death and or health issues. I think the program that they provide is excellent students can learn
about many health things going on and they can also tell their friends and educate others. Also,
they can practice what they learned for example, by eating healthy snacks at home and
exercising. My favorite part about the presentation was the smoking category. Showing a
demonstration of smoker lungs vs nonsmoker lungs. It made me realize how I want to educate
many people I know that smokes on how it really can affect his or her lives.
