How Do I Revise?
Use your teachers
o If there is anything you do not understand ASK Learn by heart o Definitions : the mole, Avogadro constant, enthalpy changes (including lattice energy), saturated and unsaturated compounds, le Chateliers principle, atom economy, fuels o Reactions of alkanes, alkenes, alcohols, halogenoalkanes, group I and 7 elements and their compounds o Solubility rules o Practical techniques : distillation, reflux, cracking/dehydration, fractional crystallisation, salt preparation, simple and combustion calorimeters o Organic reaction mechanisms : free radical substitution, electrophilic addition, nucleophilic substitution Do past papers o Review all the past papers you have done so far o You will be given all the available past papers complete any we do not do in class at home, as far as possible without help from the textbook/notes o For any parts you struggled with, change pen colour and complete the rest with help from the textbook/notes/other students o Then study the markscheme (really get to know how marks are allocated for each question type) and mark your work. Grade boundaries vary from year to year but you will have access to them so you can check where you are o Then study the examiners report to see what the common mistakes were. o Repeat this whole process for each of the papers Practice exam technique o Use CUH circle command words, underline what you are being asked to do, highlight any key bits of information o Know what command words such as Define, Explain, Describe or State mean for you to do Form a revision group with other like-minded students o Research shows that if you can teach a subject then you are much more likely to understand it and remember it yourself o Make sure you set yourselves achievement targets, though, as group work can very quickly turn into an unproductive gossip session

o Read through the notes and worked examples, looking at the advice from ResultsPlus and the examiner tips o Do the quick questions and check your answers with those at the back of the book o Tick off the checkpoints from the specification o Do the practice exam questions and check your answers.
