Competency A Professionalism and Understanding:


A good understanding of the process of teaching practice and the profession
was shown. Sound understanding of Grade 6 targets was shown and student
learning.
Category B Planning for Learning:
You planned for a large class of 26 in their last class for the day. This is a hard
thing to do. The tables were organized well into work groups. You built on the
vocabulary taught about jobs and professions. The vocabulary focus of the
lesson was well planned for. The lesson plan was clear and the activities were
planned well to structure the learning. Activities were explained and planned
for well. Points were used for incentives. The target language was further
contextualized through game activities. Reading aloud helped to build the
vocabulary. Some contextual learning was evident in the Drama activity.

Category C Implementing and Managing Learning:


Good control and management of the class was evident. A range of group
activities were implemented and managed well including work directly from
the textbook. A number of management strategies for managing behavior
and learning including colour coding for groups. The drama activity worked
well to contextualize the knowledge and give students a chance to act out
their knowledge practically.

Category D Monitoring and Assessment of Learning:


Student learning was catered for. Monitoring of student achievement of
learning outcomes was done in a range of ways. The learning was monitored

and assessed through group feedback and individual teacher feedback.

Your verbal self-evaluation of the lesson was insightful. You are aware of the
strengths of planning and building on previous learning.

Strengths of the Lesson:


The main strengths of this lesson were: the clear way you explained and
managed tasks and the group, the building of the language towards a
practical task.
Areas for Development:
Try to give more specific help to some weaker students. Try to be more
precise with your time management.
Focus for next lesson:
Try to give more specific help to weaker students. Try to more accurately allot
and manage time a little more precisely.
