October 2015 Spotlight Volume #2 State Representative Gwyndolen Clarke-Reed District 92 State Representative Gwyndolen Clarke-Reed attends House of Representatives meetings State Representative Gwyndolen Clarke-Reed attended committee meetings and the first week of the Legislature's Special Session C this past week. Speaker Steve Crisafulli explained the House would wait for the Senate to act drawing new maps for Senate districts. He said he expected new maps to arrive from the Senate and be voted on by the House between November 2-6. Representative Clarke-Reed also attended the joint Select Committee on Redistricting with members of the House and Senate where six staff-produced maps were described and discussed. Many questions and concerns were expressed on the drawing and performance of the six base maps submitted. At the Senate Reapportionment committee meetings Senators Braynon, Clemens, Galvano and Simmons presented additional ‘maps. At Friday’s meeting of the Senate Committee on Reapportionment, a single base map, presented by Chair Galvano, was approved. The full Senate is scheduled to consider this proposal this week. ‘The Veteran and Military Affairs committee met and heard an update on BRAC (Base Realignment and Closure) and how it would impact Florida's military. Two new informational pamphlets were also introduced that are available for download. The first is the Florida Military-Friendly Guide 2015 which can be found at wwwenterpriseflorida.com/fdstf. The second pamphlet is the Florida Defense Factbook which can be found at www. la.com. State Rep. Clarke-Reed also attended the Children, Families and Seniors Subcommittee meeting. One bill passed was allowing EBT cards to be used at farmers markets. There was also a panel presentation on the Baker Act compared to the Marchman Act. The objective of the panel was to hear from providers, law enforcement and. judiciary members about their involvement with these acts. The committee will continue to meet and gather more information on this subject.
