Reflection Letter
Over the semester I have learned a lot about sentence structure and how to word sentences to
make them clear and concise. I know I still need to work on not being repetitive, but I think I
have improved a lot from being in this class. I can apply the lessons I have learned about how to
avoid writing in passive voice and apply this to my other classes. Before this class, I did not even
know what passive voice was. Now I know how to rephrase sentences to avoid this type of
writing. I used strategies such as proof-reading and reading my work aloud to overcome some
challenges of writing. Hearing myself speak what I write reveals areas in my writing that are
confusing and repetitive. I believe my strengths in writing are my ability to develop ideas and my
ability to write clearly. I really enjoy writing about topics that allow me to incorporate my own
personal experiences into them. In this way, I have become very good at organizing ideas and
writing as if I am telling a story, which I believe is more entertaining for an audience to read. I
need to continue to develop my conciseness as a writer; sometimes I am over-descriptive. I also
want to work on removing expletives from my writing and I want to get better at sentence
variation. I have thoroughly enjoyed this class and all that I have learned from it!
