On November 12, 2015, I observed Ms. Mezeras kindergarten class. The
classroom was filled with many different rugs, bookshelves, and posters all around the room. I noticed that the posters contained references from books and other nursery rhymes. Her classroom was not set up in normal traditional rows and her room did not contain actual desks. There were many different tables placed around the room which I personally think is better off for the students. In the classroom when the students lose focus they are brought back to attention with a chant. Every time the chant is sang, there is a different answer and a different outcome. I feel that this is the best way to get a kindergarteners attention back on the teacher or an activity. My favorite part of the day was watching the kids learn about nocturnal animals. The smart board was used to show the students how to draw upper and lowercase Ms and Ns. I feel that using technology in the classroom is a good way to get the students motivated and wanting to learn. The way the classroom was set-up would be some kind of setup I would use. I feel that it gives the students a better learning environment because of how close they are to each other. Ms. Mezera told me, Its better to know how the students work better with each other, so we put them into groups and teams to help see where they stand. Ms. Mezeras class was very warm and inviting and I hope to have a class as inviting and energetic as hers.
