Reflection: Position Synthesis
The way I learned researching works best for me is if I look through sources and
determine which ones work best for my thesis statement/question. Then I refer to them
throughout my paper, and also learning the information as I go along. I chose the tobacco topic
since tobacco is used in my family and friends. My perspective on the issue was that there was
no good in using tobacco, but it did change throughout my research. It changed because I figured
out the positives of the use of tobacco and the negatives.
My research developed how I understand the topic now and I am more educated and in
depth on the topic. Receiving feedback works in my favor to see flaws and bring new insight to
the paper, and giving feedback makes me think of specific things in my paper that needs
attention. Learning about the 'they say/I say' argument throughout the semester was useful in my
research paper, helping incorporate my voice into the paper.
Using the Response and Analysis tools in this paper helped created the final, from what I
learned from those two papers and combining them to make the final Position Synthesis. From
what I learned throughout this course is that I can communicate my point across more clearly and
effectively.
