Trump Supports Congressman Jollys Thin Blue Line Act
Bill Mandates Increased Penalties for Cop Killers Indian Shores, Fla. Presidential Candidate Donald Trump today issued an endorsement of United States Representative David Jollys (R-FL-13) Thin Blue Line Act congressional legislation mandating stiffer penalties for cop killers. The Act, H.R. 814, which was introduced in February, is supported by the Fraternal Order of Police, Major County Sheriffs Association, the National Association of Police Organizations, the International Union of Police Associations, the Council of Prison Locals and the Florida Sheriffs Association. My bill simply says this if you take the life of a law enforcement officer, be prepared to lose your own, said Congressman Jolly. I encourage all presidential candidates and Americans alike to rally behind my legislation to protect our brave men and women who put their lives on the line every day for us. Specifically, Congressman Jollys bill would make the murder of a law enforcement officer, firefighter or first responder an aggravating factor in death penalty determinations. Under current law, the homicide of a federal public servant, such as federal agents, politicians and federal judges, is an aggravating factor for the death penalty during sentencing. The Thin Blue Line Act would extend the same treatment to state and local law enforcement and first responders when they are acting under federal jurisdiction. Congressman Jollys bill has been introduced in the U.S. Senate by Senators Pat Toomey (R-PA), Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Jeff Sessions (R-AL). Earlier this year, Trump released a VA reform plan, which included Congressman Jollys Veterans Freedom Card, H.R. 3183, as its chief proposal.
