FROM: Melanie Romero DATE: September 10th, 2015 SUBJECT: Academic Advising Center Discourse Memo Dear RWS 1301 Students, At UTEP, not everybody knows what classes to take or what they want to aspire in life. At the Academic Advising Center they can help you with almost anything having to do with classes or your major. The main focus of the Academic Advising Center is to inform current students, incoming freshman, international students, and transfer students. One of the things they do is help students under general studies decide what major they want to choose. They have many programs including the Abitur program, Pre-nursing, P.I.E., START, TSI, UTEP-UT Austin coordinated admission program, FHAR, and the probation and suspension students. They engage with these programs to help get students where they need to be. On most days, they have to advise students, administer tests, look up student records, give coins to students for lockers, and help each other. When you arrive, they offer brochures of their office hours and provide papers with important dates. The students going to the Academic Advising Center must be a current UTEP student or are going to become one. All you need to do is call to schedule an appointment or walk in. You will then meet with an advisor and they will assist you. The advisors provide advice, help you with any doubts, answer your questions, change your major, and, overall, just be there for you to guide you down a good path that suits you.
