How to write like E.B. White

Prejudice is a great time saver. You can form opinions without having to
get the facts.

E.B. White inspired kids around the world to read and imagine. He was a very
influential writer, and most of his pieces were critically acclaimed after his death. He
has won several awards for his works and contributions to literature.
E.B. White was the youngest, and only boy, born into his family in New York. His
father was a very successful professor and his mother was the owner of a piano
company, and the daughter of a rich painter. White went to Cornell University and
believed that writing should change someones perspective about the subject being
written.
In order to write like E.B. White, try using some of these methods:

Make the outcast into the hero.

Demonstrate true friendship and inclusion.

Be creative!

Some of Whites most famous pieces incorporated this process. In his novel
Charlottes Web there is a quote that reads, Why did you do all this for me?' he
asked. 'I don't deserve it. I've never done anything for you.' 'You have been my
friend,' replied Charlotte. 'That in itself is a tremendous thing. In this quote
Charlotte, the outcast spider, is lending some friendship advice to Wilbur, the runt
pig. She emphasizes that friendship is the most important thing, a key element of
Whites style. In this novel both of the outcast animals become the main characters

and live a heroic life, very characteristic of Whites style. You may not receive as
many awards as White did for his work, but writing these pieces benefits everyone,
as we all learn important lessons on friendship and society.
