EDITORIAL WRITING

Composition I | Fall 2015

Editorial writing is your opportunity to take a stand and tell the world what
you think about a societal issue. You are attempting to persuade the reader
toward your point of view using a subjective voice and research about your
issue.
Goals
This assignment is designed to help you learn how to think critically about
societal issues and write persuasively about those issues using a concise,
subjective voice. It will help you:
1. practice expressing your opinion in the pattern and style of
editorial writing
2. focus on your bottom line (i.e. your basic opinion or position)
3. provide adequate background information and knowledge about
your issue
4. learn to cite source material in your bibliography using MLA
formatting
Requirements
3-4 pages, double-spaced, 1 margins, size 12 font, Times New
Romans
printed one-sided and stapled or paper-clipped
3 valid outside resources required
must include a cover page with your name, due date, class
name, and name of teacher
must include a bibliography page at the end of the paper that
uses MLA formatting
must focus on your bottom line (similar to your thesis)
must provide adequate background information and supportive
evidence
must have a descriptive title

must be interesting!

October 28th (first draft due October 26th)
