Demands
a. Pre: Adjusting my signing to the childs preferred communication style.
b. During: Not knowing where the classroom is.
c. Post: The student didnt understand me very well all day and informed me only at the
end of the day.
Controls
a. Pre: Contact the interpreter Im substituting for and discuss how they sign to the
student and see if s/he has any tips for how to interpret for the student.
b. During: Go to the administrations office and inquire where the classroom is.
c. Post: Offer to go with the student and interpret to the teachers to help clarify what she
didnt understand.

I would drive and call the school beforehand to see if it would be alright if I parked in

the parking lot or if I needed a pass to do so. Given the morning traffic around those areas at that
time, I would allow myself another extra 15 minutes to arrive on time.
3. I would contact the teachers beforehand and ask for their lessons for that day and study each
lesson before hand to become familiar with the subject matter.
4. Since Im only substituting for another interpreter, I think a team would already be set up, and
I would confirm this with the interpreter I would be replacing.
5. Resources Id use would be the interpreter Id be substituting for, their team member, the
teachers and their lesson plans, Google and YouTube.

6. If I was that concerned for travel time I might do a test drive the day before and see if I
could make it there on time.
