Research Proposal
When I was in 3rd or 4th grade; I had this foreign art teacher that I looked up to growing
up. She always kept art interesting with her stories of her culture believed or stories of different
projects that we would be working on. One project we did in class was about Ancient Egyptian
Gods, She went on telling us about this one god named Anubis who had the head of a jackal and
a body of a human. Anubis was known for being the god of mummification, His roles were he
supervised the embalming of bodies. He received the mummy into the tomb and performed the
Opening of the Mouth ceremony and then conducted the soul in the Field of Celestial Offerings.
Most importantly though, Anubis monitored the Scales of Truth to protect the dead from
deception and eternal death. After my teacher explained all this she had us make a jar of Anubis
out of clay, where the Egyptians would store the dead organ parts for safe keeping.
For some odd, reason that project interested me; It made me think as to how a society
could believe in something like that or be polytheistic to say the least. But not only just that
society but other ones too like Ancient Greece and how that religion through the years. How a
culture can go from hundreds of gods to just one, and how founded or what caused them to
believe in such gods. For example, Im Mormon which is another form of Christianity; my
religion we read from the bible and also the book of Mormon. Just like Catholics we have
prophets also, but in the early days of Mormonism it was perfectly fine to marry more than one

person. Through the years that has changed along with the book of Mormon that we study and
read from.
For my research project Ill be looking up polytheistic religions and comparing it to
monotheistic religions. I will also be researching how polytheistic religions have changed over
time. Which lead me to the question Ill be using for this research project What led different
societies to believe in polytheism & how has it changed over the years? I look to find these
answers and explanations in online articles and a book that I had checked out at the library.
