Portfolio 5- Child Profile
4/29/15
The subject of my physical, cognitive and socio-emotional
portfolios was my 6-year-old niece. I learned a lot more about what
really makes her who she is and how much she has grown as a young
girl. I really think my niece enjoyed helping me with these assignments
and it sparked her interest in learning.
Over the course of this semester and these portfolio
assignments, I observed my nieces physical, cognitive and socioemotional development in order to gather whether or not she was
appropriately developed for her age. Like any child, I think she could
always improve on certain areas, but for the most part she seemed to
do well with the things I asked her to do. She has a brief background in
gymnastics so her ability to balance more than other children her age
was prevalent. I also believe that having two older siblings has helped
her with her cognitive development. She has always met her
milestones early by continuously mimicking her older siblings. Her
socio-emotional development is the area with the lowest level of
development. She didnt quite understand how words could hurt a
person until I asked her how she would feel if she was called the mean
names that the other kids in her class call other students. With time
and more life experiences, I think my niece will become a very well
developed young lady.
