Research Proposal
How are media outlets, such as tabloids, allowed to tell lies about
celebrities and not be convicted of slander in the Court of Law? What were
the cases that celebrities tried to bring forth against the tabloids? Why did
they win or lose? Who dont more celebrities try it? What advise do lawyers
usually give when lies are told about someone as fact? I feel that in cases,
such as Michael Jacksons, that the tabloids went way too far when it came to
telling lies. They would make stuff up just to hurt him. I have personally had
lies told about me before, and most people have, and it doesnt feel good. It
is a form of bullying and as a culture we should be trying to stop bullying, not
encourage it or make it seem okay. Before I started on this project I
wondered why more people had not brought and won cases in court against
the tabloid companies. Now I know it is because I is very hard to prove that
there was malicious intent.
