"Language is like a suit of clothes: it can be tailored to one's purposes;"

-Zitkala-Sa
Just as one can express himself with clothing, language is an indicator of deeper personal things.
Through the use of language one conveys not only meaning and ideas, but the social status and origin of
he who is speaking. Language, like a suit of clothes, shows a lot about the person. However, like a suit of
clothes, language can be used to portray a false image. This phrase makes it apparent that just as what
one wears is important, the language one uses is as well. Rhetorically speaking, I can imagine that this
was said to people to whom clothing was important, but for whom language plays no role. It draws
attention to the similarities of the two, and ignores the gaping difference between thought based language
and material things.
