PROCLAMATION
HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH
September 15 October 15, 2015
WHEREAS, on September 17, 1968, Public Law 90-498 authorized the President of the
United States to annually establish a week in September as National Hispanic Heritage Week;
and
WHEREAS, National Hispanic Heritage Month is an opportunity for Pennsylvania to
celebrate the rich cultural traditions and honor the significant contributions of our HispanicAmerican community; and
WHEREAS, Hispanics are the largest ethnic minority group in the country, the fastest
growing minority community in the Commonwealth, and make valuable contributions to the
Commonwealth through business, industry, government, education, the sciences, arts, and
faith; and
WHEREAS, Hispanics have served with honor and distinction in many conflicts since
the Revolutionary War and continue to answer the call to defend America as members of our
Armed Forces. These brave men and women bring honor to America, and we are grateful for
their service and sacrifice; and
WHEREAS, the diverse backgrounds of Hispanic Americans and their dedication to
family values have become an integral part of Pennsylvania. They have made enormous
contributions to our diverse society by sharing their talents, attributes, and deep connection to
their family values, culture, and tradition. With their commitment to faith and their desire to
live the American dream, Latino citizens embrace the full blessings of liberty, justice, and
equality.
THEREFORE, I, Tom Wolf, Governor of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, do
hereby proclaim September 15 October 15, 2015, as HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH in
Pennsylvania. I join with all Americans in celebrating the many achievements of LatinoHispanic Americans and recognizing their contributions to our nation.
