Overview:

This lesson is designed to help students avoid common mistakes while

compound sentences such as run-on sentences and comma splices. The
class is called High Intermediate Writing and composition. This class is given
two times a week, on Monday and Wednesday. Each lecture lasts for 1 hour.
My target audience is female Saudis who are juniors majoring in English
Literature in King AbdulAziz University. The capacity of the class is 30
students whose ages ranges between 22 and 23 years old. This course is
designed for high intermediate L2 learners of English. The main goal of the
whole course is to focus on extensive practices in academic writing. In other
words, emphasis will be on developing a rich variety of sentence types and
rhetorical patterns includes a comprehensive review of grammar, mechanics,
and spelling as well as be familiarized with effective online technology.
I have created this lesson and designed such activities because
students will benefit from this lesson. Run-on sentences and comma splices
are two of the most common writing and grammatical mistakes. Moreover,
students will have a desire to learn more for two reasons. First, the lesson
involves group work which is complemented by collaboration and movement.
Second, the lesson itself help them to become more professional writers.
To any writing class, in my opinion, the best technological online tool I
prefer to implement it is Google Doc. Google Doc is a free word document
service provided by google. It is very useful tool for teaching writing where

the teacher can highlight the text, insert comment, and provide formative
feedback. The good thing for the students is that the smart comment will
disappear after revising. Furthermore, once the students share their
documents, it enables me as a teacher to see where they are exactly with
the writing process. Thus, implementing Google Doc in my writing class will
help my students to understand and use English effectively in a variety of
contexts and settings as well as be familiarized with such effective online
tool as Google Doc.
