DVD Menu Diary for Unit 58 Assignment 3


23/11/15
Aim Login and check emails, folder and brief, sources document, start Ass 3. I have also
started a diary and ILP. Liaise with client set 3 reviews, feedback of Ass 2.
Evidence I have set up documents for my diary and Legal and Ethical. I started my ILP and
added client reviews on stated sessions. I have also started on my diary as shown below. I
dont need to recap my knowledge on the Director software as I feel I know enough about it
from Unit 60 & 1. I am going to have a quick recap of what the client requirements are from
assignment 2, so that I can include the correct elements into my project. I am now happy
that I can remember what is needed from me.

I am now going to open the Director software and will firstly set my stage size to 1024 x 768.
Before I do this I am going to click on window and then onto panel sets, default. I have had
to right click on the stage, go to movie properties and type in the correct size. I will also
change the toolbar so that the settings go from default to classic.

I am now going to import all my assets which I collected during assignment 2. In order to do
this, I click on file > import. Although I may not use all my assets I will import them into
Director in case I decide to change a picture.

I am now going to start on my opening screen. Firstly, I am going to add my background


image onto the screen, but before I do this I am going to resize the size of my screen from
100% to 50%. To do this I will just drag and drop it onto the screen and resize my image so
that it fits the stage size well. I will then shorten the length of my sprite on the timeline in
Director.

I have decided to change the colour of Bastilles logo to black which is different to on my
storyboards, as it stands out better from the background image colour. I will make sure that
it has the background set to background transparent so that its not white. By doing this it
will make my product look more professional.

I am then going to modify my text on my buttons so that I can make the text bigger and
stand out more. The background colour of all my buttons is going to be white as I have
decided that making them blue wouldnt be right as they wouldnt stand out much. I am
going to update the looks of my buttons when I have set up all my navigation and pages.

Learnt In this lesson I have learnt how get director from a blank screen to a screen which
has a timeline and stage. I have also learnt how to set the background of my screen to a
textured background by importing an image from the cast list. I have also learnt how to add
buttons so that they can be used to navigate.

Aim Login and check emails, folder and brief, Shared and Moodle, and continue with Ass
3. I am also getting a more detailed feedback of Ass 2. I will also edit my videos to 30
seconds.
Evidence I have already edited some of my videos down to 30 seconds using some
software I have at home called Window Movie Maker. But in order to crop down my last
video I have left I am going to use Adobe Premier. Firstly, I will import the video and when it
opens double click on the video. I will then use the mark in and out button to select the part
of the song I want. I will then drag and drop it onto the timeline. I will then save the file and
the export it.

I am going to make my buttons link to a new screen for my band info and contents page. To
do this I will drag and drop the go to frame XButton and type in the number of the sprite
for the page. Before I play the product I will put a pause on the top timeline at the end of
my opening screens sprites so that it doesnt continually run without stopping.

I will also add the blurred image of the band members onto my opening screen. To make the
picture blurred I simply added an effect over the image on Photoshop. I will simply import
the Photoshop image into my cast list and drag and drop it into place on my screen. I have
also had to move my buttons to the other side so that there is room to have an animation
next to them.

I am now going to add the images of the band members onto the band info page and will
add my text into the mini text boxes below each member. I will also add my main text on
the page.

I am now going to add the buttons onto my contents page, to do this I will select the button
creation tool and type the name of each song into the right button as shown on my
storyboards. I have changed the layout of my buttons so that there is bigger space for my
slideshow of images.

I am now going to make my buttons link to each of the separate video pages so that all my
pages are set up with backgrounds. To do this I am going to drag the go to frame XButton
onto each of the buttons and type in the sprite number from the timeline. At the end of
each sprite for the different pages I am going to put a go to the frame pause in there.

Learnt I have learnt how to blur an image on Photoshop and how to modify text in my
buttons. I have also learnt how to crop and export my videos using Adobe Premier. I have
also learnt how to add pauses into the timeline so my product doesnt run continuously.

Aim login and check emails, brief and folder, continue with sources and ILP. Carry on with
my product and get feedback from Ass 2.
Evidence I am then going to make a page for the interview of Dan Smith to go on. This will
have a video of Dan Smiths interview video clip with controls. This is going to be an extra
and the page will be added in the same way which I made the contents and band info page.
To do this I will drag and drop the Interview video onto the correct page and will drag and
drop my control button images onto the page so that I can set them up with the play, pause
and rewind. To stop my video playing automatically when I first enter the page I will go on
the QuickTime options and select paused. I will also put the video on a continuous loop. I
will set up all my videos in the same way. My videos wont have a blue border as said on my
storyboards because it blends in with the background colour too much so you cant see it
anyway.

In order to make sure all my videos are the same size I am going to apply a 50 x 50 grid onto
the screen.

I am now going to add the logo onto each of my video pages, by simply dragging and
dropping the transparent bastille logo from my cast list. I will then resize it so that my logo is
the same size on each page.

Learnt I have learnt how to resize my videos so that they are all the same size. I did this by
laying a grid over my stage. I have also learnt how to add the controls to my videos so that
you can stop and start them.
Evidence I am going to add navigation but before I do I am going to edit my buttons in
Photoshop to get rid of the white background. This means the background colour will then
be transparent.

Before I use Photoshop I need to edit the settings by opening Photoshop, go into edit >
preferences > click performance > uncheck use Graphic Processor > ok.

Im now going to use Director to create the title for each of my video pages. I will then
create a text box in which I will type each video title.

Im going to save all my Photoshop edited images on my workspace under a folder called
Photoshop Images.

Im now going to add all my back and forward buttons, home and close buttons. I created all
my assets using a program at home called paint.net. To do this I will drag and drop them
from the cast list and resize them.

I will then use the go to XButton to select the correct stage screen number so that the
button link to the right pages. To set up my close button I will right click on the close button
and select the script, I will then type in quit.

When you click my video buttons they are now going to turn red for a second instead of
changing as Director wont let me do this. Im not going to have a preview as my video song
buttons as it doesnt work in Director.

Learnt I have learnt how to set up my close button and forward/back button. I have also
learnt how to add titles to my pages.
26/11/15
Aim I was working in my free time on a Thursday so there wasnt an aim.
Evidence Im now going to add some pictures and rollover images. To do this I am going to
drag and drop images onto my stage. To make my second image a rollover I will drag across
an image and place it where I want it, then I will go into library > animation > interactive >
rollover member change. I will then drag this over my second image and when it comes up
with a box I will select the image I want it to change to.

I will also add the YouTube links to each video page, to do this I will create a text box and
copy and paste the right links from my sources document from Assignment 2. All my fonts
are set too Arial and between 12-96 point size.

Learnt In my free time session today I have learnt how to change the size and colour of my
font. I have also learnt how to add rollover images onto my pages.
27/11/15
Aim login and check emails, brief and folder, continue ass 3 of creating product, editing
videos and keeping my ILP, Diary and sources document up to date.
Evidence I am now going to start my opening screen animation, to do this I will drag and
drop my selected image onto the page. I will then go into the library > animation > sprite
transitions and select Pixelate. The drag and drop it over the image as shown below.

I am also going to check that everythings lined up and all my sprites have the correct
names. I will also double check my videos work.

When I came to checking my videos it didnt want to play them so I had to import them for a
third time making sure they are the ones saved on my personal workspace.

In order to make my cycle graphics animation I am going to import all the images I will use in
it again so that they are next to each other. I will then drag and drop a picture that will start
my animation. Then I will drag and drop the cycle graphic over the top from the library
under animation > automatic.

Above you can see the images on which I started and ended my animation on, you can also
see how fast my images will move.
Learnt- I have learnt how to add a cycle graphics to my contents page but I have had a few
difficulties. I have also learnt how to fix my videos that didnt work.
27/11/15
Aim I worked in my own time in my free at college so I didnt have an aim.
Evidence Now Im going to add my sound tracks onto my opening screen and information
page. These will have controls so that you can play and pause the music.
To add the sound, I will drag it from my cast list onto the top timeline where it says sound 1.
I am also going to import my two sound buttons so that you can control the music. I will
have to add the sound icons onto my storyboards, they will be on my opening and
information pages. To make these work I am going to go to library > media > sound, I will
then drag and drop the play sound over my normal volume icon and drag and drop pause
sound over the muted volume icon. On my last product I made I used stop sound but
when you play the sound track again it starts at the beginning. I have also kept the sprite
length short so that it only covers the opening screen page and comes in at the right time.

I am now going to do the same on my information page. I have had to use Premier Pro again
to crop the introduction from my song. Now I have edited it, it goes straight into the song
with a second of silence.

I will now make my title on the first page fade in so that it matches my storyboard
description. In order to do this, I went to library > animation > automatic > fade in out. I
simply dragged this onto the title image and set up the settings as shown below.

Im going to make my logo slide in on my contents, information and video pages as I have
said on my storyboard design. They will also roll in from the left. In order to do this I will
move the image off the screen and then I will drag the yellow dot in the middle so I can
position the image back in the correct place. I have now created a pathway in which my
bastille logo can follow. I will do this for each page.

Learnt I have learnt how to make my title fade in onto my screen and I have also learnt
how to add sound and controls which play and pause the music as well.

Evidence I am now going to add captions to my controls/buttons. To do this I simply
created a text box with a transparent background and typed in an instruction such as click a
button to view a video.

Today I have also moved my buttons around so that the overall look of the page is better.
This means that my buttons which are the same size are opposite each other as shown
below. After moving my buttons around I have had to also reconfigure my scripting on some
of my buttons. To do this I went into the library > behaviour inspector and then selected the
button and removed the behaviour. I then set it up again.

I have also added another animation to my contents page which instead of running a
slideshow of CD cover images from the songs as said on my storyboards, it is now a zoom in
transition on my bastille bad blood tour poster. In order to make my animation I just went
into the library > automatic > Zoom in out. I then dragged and dropped this onto the image
and set up the settings as shown below right.

Learnt Today I have learnt how to add instructions onto my pages. I have also learnt how
to add a different kind of animation into my product.
Im now going to add a sound effect onto my enter, band info and interview button. I
will also put a beep on my buttons on the contents page. Firstly, I will have to import the
sound effect I want which is a beep. I have got this sound effect from the shared area. I have
then dragged it onto the sound timeline. Then I dragged and dropped the play sound sprite
onto each button on the contents page and set it up as below.

In the same way I will add a sound effect to my enter, band info and interview button. This
sound effect will be a different one to the one used on my contents buttons. The sound I will
use is boing low, I will now do the same as the one above.

Learnt Today I have learnt how to get my buttons the same size, I have also managed to
get my sound effects working on my contents page buttons and my enter, interview and
band info buttons.

Evidence In this session I have added final touches to my product such as some more
transitions on my contents page and information page. To do this I simply moved my image
off the screen and dragged the dot in the centre to position the image into the correct place
on my page.

I have also sorted out the layout of my product so that when you change between the
different video pages there is only a slight movement in the button and image positions.

Learnt In this lesson I have learnt how to make my sprites longer on the page so that it can
slow down the time it takes for my transitions to come on the screen. Although in the end I
didnt actually apply this to my product.
02/11/15
Aim Login and check emails, folder and brief. I will also continue on my Unit 58 DVD
Menu, ILP, Sources and Diary. This is my last full session working on my product.
Evidence In todays lesson I have edited my band members so that they have transparent
backgrounds and look better on the band info page. In order to do this, I used the polygonal
lasso tool on the Photoshop software. This means that I could drag and click to outline my
band members in order to get rid of the backgrounds while still keeping some of the detail. I
have also made all my images black and white. I have also cropped down the bottom of the
images as well. I used the same process for each of my band members.

My band info page has now changed from the picture on the left below to the picture on
the right below. In my opinion I think doing this makes my product look slightly better.

I have also given my product the last check and had my final meeting with the client in
which we both agreed my product is good and looks quite professional.
Learnt In this session I have learnt how to edit images so that they have a transparent
background. I have also learnt how to crop an image on Photoshop.

screen shots of product. I will then print and do C2B4 ME. I will also update ass 2 to weebly
and put it on the drive.
Evidence

I opened up my product and took some screenshots using prtscn and dropped them into a
word document.
Learnt Today I have learnt how to upload to weebly and how to publish my document.
