A BILL
To provide health living education to children in order to lower child
obesity rates.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the


United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1: SHORT TITLE
This act may be cited as the Obesity Act of 2015
SECTION 2: FINDINGS
Congress hereby finds and declares that,
1) More than one-third (34.9% or 78.6 million) of U.S. adults are
obese.
2) Obesity-related conditions include heart disease, stroke, type 2
diabetes and certain types of cancer, some of the leading causes
of preventable death.
3) The estimated annual medical cost of obesity in the U.S. was
$147 billion in 2008 U.S. dollars; the medical costs for people
who are obese were $1,429 higher than those of normal weight.
4) Non-Hispanic blacks have the highest age-adjusted rates of
obesity (47.8%).
5) Hispanics make up 42.5% of Americas obesity problem.
6) Followed by non-Hispanic whites at 32.6%.
7) And finally non-Hispanic Asians at 10.8%
8) For children and adolescents aged 2-19 years, the prevalence of
obesity has remained fairly stable at about 17% and affects
about 12.7 million children and adolescents for the past decade.
9) Obesity prevalence differs among racial/ethnic groups and also
varies by age, sex, and adult head of households and education
level.

However, from 1998 through 2003, the prevalence of
obesity increased from 13.05% to 15.21%, and the prevalence of
extreme obesity increased from 1.75% to 2.22%.
SECTION 3: STATUTORY LANGUAGE
A) The Federal Government will require all states to provide health
classes to Kindergarten, 5th Grade, 8th grade, and 12th grade
students.
B) Health classes will include material on ways to eat healthy, cook
healthy, exercise frequently, and a general course giving factual
information on food intake.
C) Super or Plus sized portions at fast food establishments
would be abolished.

D) Restaurants would limit the size of soft drinks served to no more


than 8 oz. per serving.
E) Recreational gym equipment would be added to public parks for
the use of the public.
