Artifact: Class video and picture of the uniform
Discussion:
I constructed class video, and picture of the uniforms. I created this video when I was
student teaching in Manhattan Hunter Science High School. I was teaching College Algebra for
which students need to pass the state standard exam (Algebra Regents) and SAT. The topic for
this lesson was how we will factor out the greatest common factor of a polynomial?
In this lesson, I was introducing factoring using the greatest common factor for students. Next,
show another way of explaining how to factor out a common factor with a negative coefficient. From all
of this explanation, the teacher will do one problem together with students and give other examples for
students, for better understanding. Third, show students video Factoring by grouping for better
understanding. After that asked the steps of how to factor a polynomial, and have three examples. One did
together with class, the last two for students. The last thing is to give students the Exit Slip question and
see how students understand the class.

I asked all students to answer the questions, and wait for students questions. Everybody is
having the same opportunity. All students are equal in my class, they have the same opportunity
as others, and they can ask, answer, read and write the question. I also sign the group work where
students, especially the higher level ones, were encouraged to answer open-ended assignments
that focus on the process of solving the problem and/or critical thinking. Students would work in
cooperative mixed-ability groups on open-ended tasks or appropriately challenging tasks. In such
ways, peer tutoring were promoted, and students with different needs were be provided different
helps. Also, as the lesson going on, the helps were gradually withdrawn. So, students would
develop conceptual understanding through clear scaffolding. I want also mention that all students
are wearing uniform, which makes them to be seen and tread equally. Everybody is treat in the

same level, and they are more focus to be successful not only in mathematics but in other
subjects too. Everybody respect each other by not laughing from others when they are
responding, waiting for their call, and letting others to answer the questions.
