1. How can the air intake of a 4-stroke naturally aspirated combustion engine be tuned to
increase power and torque?
2. Questions:
a. What is the ideal shape of an air intake for the best performance?
b. How does diameter of the tube affect performance?
c. How does the length of the tube affect performance?
d. What philosophies of tune should be employed for a street car as opposed to a
road car?
e. What is the best way to create a bend in the intake without losing performance?
f. What small details can tighten up performance?
g. What should be left to professionals?
3. I know for a fact that a straight tube is best for the engine. I am interested in how
diameter, lengths, and bends affect an intake. Different motors are tuned for different
philosophies. Im most interested in Street cars. All of my cars have tuned intakes which
make small amounts of power but considering I am trying to get the most out of those
modifications, this is a worth-while topic to research. I have tuned my daily driver to
make a considerable amount of torque only thats taken about $200 in research and
development. I want to know how to make the best intake so I can stop wasting money.
