Wednesday Dec/9th

Bulletin Board Christmas Art project

Time allocated: 2 periods or 1 hour and 8 minutes
Students will be finger painting christmas lights on the bulletin board, and then
making a dancing santa, and christmas trees in art class which they will be able to fill
the board with.
The night before:
- Make a representation of the dancing santa and what it will look like.
- Trace the shapes onto the 7 coloured papers without cutting them out to show then
what the paper is supposed to look like.
- Gather all the material needed.
In the Morning:
- Grab the finger paint from the staff room, a water jug so students can wash their
thumbs off, and paper towel to dry their hands.
- While the students are in LA class in the morning, I will put up a white background
on the bulletin board.
- I will then handwrite Merry Christmas with a sharpie on a white piece of paper, then
put it on the background colour so it makes itself bold.
- Draw a string which will be the light cord and hen draw little black squares coming
off of the string to be the base of the lightbulbs.
- Pull students out of class 2 by 2 so each student is able to finger paint 4 lightbulbs
on the wall. (This should take 40 minutes)
Before Lesson
- Because the lesson is after lunch, during lunch organize all the papers so each
students can come to the back of the room and trap a pile of paper which will
already contain the tracing sheet and the 7 colours.
- Have everything I need on the back table (all papers, representation, brass fasteners,
glue sticks, scissors)
Art Lesson:
- Call students to back table one row at a time for students to grab material.
- Once all students have the material on their desks and are looking at me, I will then
start to explain the instruction.
- Explain the amount of traced pieces they should have when they cut them all out
(17) and the number of coloured paper in front of them.
- Go through each step with them until all the gluing is complete. Show the steps on
how to put the santa together by showing them by representation of the dancing
santa.
- When students are done gluing, they come back to the back table to pick a pom pom
and I put on the brass fasteners for them.
- They leave the Santa on the back table for the glue to dry.
- Students can then work on a christmas tree if they are done for the remainder of the
class.
At the end of the day, staple up all the Santas and Christmas trees on the bulletin
board.
