After my classmates and I presented on several types of interpreting careers, we were asked to

select our top five and explain our reasoning for why we became interested in those. These are in
no particular order.

Oral Transliteration Certification

Basically silently dictating a conversation while being verbatim.


I currently do a version of this for my job.
There is no place in Utah to train for the OTC.
Most common in classroom settings.
Most feel hearing aids or other assistive technology is enough for the deaf or hard of
hearing client to be able to understand the speaker.

Higher Educational Interpreting

Steady pay
Mentoring opportunities
Learning opportunities
Needs to have an extensive and flexible vocabulary

Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI)

Religious Interpreting
