Miguel Flores English 0492 Observation December 10, 2015 For my observation { decided to do Noclia Murillg my girlfriends mother. She's a Mexican woman that migrated from Mexico to escape from poverty to pursue a better life in the United States, When she came here with her husband and one daughter that was four years of when they came.to the United States,it was very difficult for them to find jobs and no one would hire them. she had no previous jobs nor did she have any formal education, Her husband was a She\, was basically ingle mother when she came to heavy alcoholic and persistent drug us The United States looking for a new start for her and her daughter. Noclia barely know any but that didn’t stop her from trying to look for a job right away. As of right now she is not working, because about a year ago she had major surgery that remove a tumor inside of her uterus, She wouldn't have it this way if i were up to her, Noelia is always moving constantly trying to find something she can do, whenever I see her she's always smiling and on her feet. For &, roughly nar ase making lunches for her old coworkers at a junkyard fi was decent She Sycee money, but,had to quit because it started to gain on her health. I chose her b fre experiences and events that have happened to h ‘ause she has a lot of reShe hi 110 pull through them alone and “as a ‘womtan in nowadays it's almost impossible to do anything without a man I was dumb enough to believe that when I was young women I could do il alone”. She's an am: 1g person who is very earthy, she doesn't over complicate things nor does she over simplify them. If you give her a second of your time you'll find things out about her that you'd never hear from any body else. 1 very plain could easily say that she is my second mother. While conducting the observation | was and boring, so I take partial blame for the not very in depth answers. A¥& I apologize for the background noise ape she was cooking and it was the only time [had her at the house. With the first question I asked her she right away talks about a real life instance where her being a woman was challenged and treated like second class by her coworkers. She was talking about how when she worked on a construction site that men would think of her as less because she had ‘a vagina. She explains on how men don’t want to think of women as their equal nor do they want to think of her as a being that is capable to do anything. I remember her telling me this story before and how she was going to quit after a week but then saw her check and decided to stay longer due to her needing the money to support the two children she now hade which. was my girlttiend, Meleriar she Was about one-year ONT When her MONT Worked-on.a construction site, Noclias ‘opinion about how in the media nowadays they give women a voice and a chance to be heard is very outspoken and shows how strong she is about it. Bhe also talks about how it’s a great thing to purnely have women in different positions of auhorinie 2 convo tts nplniean fell The oecia gives women the ability to now have a voice but in her opinion she believes men criticizes women because they now have one, but only take advantage of itagdonly-say-dumb things that gatpcople-+ited-up. She talks about how men have these dumb stereotypes about womens tke -fonzfnstance women drivers aren't sufficient enough fo drive. She explains on how women have a different instinct than men and because of this instinet sometimes women’s minds work in ‘complete juncture than men. She explains how women have an instinct that have to care for two, people instead of one. She exptains how men care about muscle and women analyse the problem. Starr She becomes very vocal about how women will never be able to do all the things men js yet can do and vise versa. She explains that the reason women and men will most likely"be the same |) because that's just how it is;{heir are two types of genders men and women, not one gender. She’d like to also tell people that they should stop compard’#bewt cach cothery because their are things that must stay different. Noelia advocates about how respecting your own gender can lead ori a long way to respecting others genders, that will become respectful of your own. Noelia talks, nko about how when working with men her opinion never amounted to anything because they thought she was incapable of doing all the work that they did. She also discusses on how when asked who could work for long periods of time the men would automatically push her to the sides Thraug ran 7 asdSay she wasn't able to handle the workload, even though she was already working as much as they were. Her feelings about the subject is that we just need to respect each gender, but most importantly we need to respect ourselves, beemuse trying to compete with the other gendeqwill only lead to major loss in the end. Her feelings about the last question almost brings back memories of discomfort. When speaking about the men at the construction site she faded and almost became more real. She talks about how men would assume the role she played at her ‘work was almost the maid. They didn't ask for her opinion, and didn’t acknowledge her as equal, She talks about how they made her seem like an object, or a tool that only came out when need be, She says that women have a different role in society and it scoms like women don’t get the same pay as.¥eamgn and that makes her sick almost because competition between genders don’t show the capabilities that women have to offer, but only shows their limitations. weary To be quite honest I was very nervous A¥@i throughout | almost wanted it to be done with before I even started. Noclia was very calm and collectedy there was never a dull moment when talking to her about how women are treated in all aspects of life. She was very knowledgeable and didn't really care about what most people had to say about her, The biggest challenge was iy mbeavicn being able to find a time and having a place to do A, because €éven during this interview she was making dinner and was kind of on a time crunch, but looking back on it now I wish I would have been more calm. | leamed a lot from her just by knowing her she'll teach you about anything as Tong as she had personal experience about it herself, W4y\gVeu JF she doesn’t she'll still be able to. ith all that she had to say but put an opinion on the table for all to see. I personally agree something that caught me off guard was when she was talking about how she was treated by her ‘own coworkers at times that’s scary to not be seen as an equal. I personally have never been treated like less due to my gender except whenever Theard complains about how men. rat swine and terrible people, but sometimes it’s true mgn can sometimes be terrible people, Kft pt can go both ways even though it's harder to pinpoint in the other gender.
