It would be fatal for our nation to overlook the imperial imperative of the moment. Today, we have the tools to enhance the learning experience every child everywhere. We cannot continue to allow children and adolescents to sit in classrooms with broken desks, archaic chalkboards and a pedagogical philosophy that fails to include the active use of technology built in and pervasive in the K-12 curriculum. I have a dream that one day our schools will rise up and live out the true meaning of the Department of Educations creed: to promote student achievement and preparation for global competitiveness by fostering educational excellence and ensuring equal access. I have a dream that the principles of Universal Design for Learning will be the bedrock of our schools that we will live out their mission, to advance learning until it has no limits. That one day every teacher and every student will have access to technologies that will enhance learning for all. I have a dream, that one day the technology will be available in every school from the poorest cities in D.C. to the prep schools in Beverly Hills. I have a dream today!
