GeoHuddle - Community Geothermal Energy Systems
GeoHuddle - Community Geothermal Energy Systems
GeoHuddle systems will use standard components and materials and will be able
to be installed by existing HVAC technicians, using proprietary engineering
developed by GeoHuddle. These same technicians will be able to be maintain them as well. System administration
consists of billing and collecting and will be done by either GeoHuddle, a hired agency, or through utility partnerships.
Our existing business model calls for system ownership by GeoHuddle and possibly the developer or other strategic
partner, with system financing arranged and provided by either GeoHuddle, the developer, a lender or financing partner,
and possibly public sector loans and grants, some of which GeoHuddle has already identified.
Market Opportunity - The installation opportunities that GeoHuddle seeks are new residential construction sites of at
least 20 home sites, with some perhaps even being existing homes. Of the 455,000 new homes built in the US in 2009,
GeoHuddle research indicates at least 75% would be candidates because of being multiple home developments. The
initial customer for GeoHuddle is the developer, who must recognize the value that a GeoHuddle system offers to
homeowners at his site and to him as a developer. Individual homeowners become customers when they buy a lot with
a GeoHuddle system. GeoHuddle projects that the average homeowner will pay approximately $100 per month and
save 20% in heating and cooling charges compared to other systems. The monthly system fee will depend upon size of
homes, local utility charges, system costs, and other factors. These calculations and the contracts documenting them
are part of the proprietary value created by GeoHuddle.
Sales - Our sales channel centers around the developers of new residential subdivisions. We are able to access these
developers through trade shows and local homebuilders associations. GeoHuddle systems are cost competitive in nearly
all areas, but we have initially focused on states where our systems have the largest potential benefit. Based on heating
fuel prices, climate, and electricity prices we have found these to be Kentucky, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota,
and Texas.
Team - The venture is being led by Steve Faulkner (CEO), Mike Major (CTO), and includes experienced service providers
and successful entrepreneurs on an advisory basis. Steve is an engineering consultant and previously contributed to a
thermal drilling system used by researchers to drill in Antarctica. Mike is an engineer and is a registered patent attorney.
Mike currently develops geothermal projects for public buildings in the state of Wisconsin.
