Abstract

This scientific research is conducted to study the effectiveness of the game Golden Egg
in improving the understanding and the mastery of the addition operation concept for
pre-school children. At the same time , the researchers have the opportunity to find out
the problems that have always experienced by teachers and pupils in the process of
teaching and learning. Moreover, this research would help to improve the teaching
practises in the terms of teaching Mathematics. The study was conducted on selected
respondents from a pre-school which is located in the suburbs area in Butterworth,
Pulau Pinang. The data was collected through the pre-test and post-test and also
interviews with chosen respondents. The results of data analysis showed that all the six
respondents in the research had shown significant improvement in the post-test. The
results also showed that the application of the game method Golden Egg is very
effective in helping the pre-school pupils to develop a level of understanding and
mastering the operation of addition in the number range of 1 to 10. In addition , this
research proved that the positive response among the pupils increased when answering
questions involving addition. It also helps to nurture pupils interest in the subject of
Mathematics.
