And then I heard the voice of the Master: Whom shall I send? Who will go for us? I spoke up,

Beloved,
Thank you!

Since then, A.G. Lynch has committed to an investigation of Chicago Police Department
policies, practices, and procedures. While we anticipate this review will be groundbreaking and helpful, our demand for a Special Prosecutor to investigate the execution
of Mr. McDonald still stands.
To that end we mailed nearly 4,000 letters signed by our congregation and sent a letter
accompanied by another nearly 3,000 signatures (over 1,000 from clergy from across the
country), to A.G. Lynch requesting the Special Prosecutor.
I am so very proud of the way persons of all walks of life, from all corners of America,
have come together to demand justice.
Thank you for your heart for justice and for your mind for fairness; and, thank you for
being foot soldiers in the fight against oppressive and criminal police actions.
Asking you to Imagine . . .

To Do JUSTiCe

A couple of weeks ago, in the midst of the disclosure of the LaQuan McDonald video,
as the voices of our community rose to a crescendo, we asked you to support a petition
asking U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch to assign a Special Prosecutor to investigate
the shooting and potential cover-up.

A Message from Rev. Mark A. Smith, Executive Minister of Stewardship
Your generous donations to Trinity United Church of Christ have been a true
blessing to our ministry. We praise God for your worship in giving to the One
who was, is, and forever will be!

5-Star Team offering

One of Trinitys traditions is the Team Member Offering
and we wish to express our sincerest appreciation for your
generosity in the past. Partially, as a result of your gifts,
we have implemented a formal Rewards and Recognition
program which includes, but is not limited to: 5-Star Awards,
Leadership Awards, Milestone Anniversary Awards,
Employee Referral Awards, and Wellness Programs. In
addition to these formal program awards, through your
generosity, we have been able to annually provide to each
team member a gift card just before Christmas. Trinity
United Church of Christ would not be one of the greatest
churches this side of the Jordan without our dedicated
team members who see to it that we are dry and comfortable as we worship and provide ministry
every time the doors open. This is our once-a-year collective opportunity to give them a special
thank you. Please express your appreciation to these co-laborers who are serving in Love and
Excellence by dropping your check or money order payable to Trinity UCC in the offering, noting
Team Member Offering in the notes section on or before Sunday, December 20, 2015.

As you reflect on your year-end tax planning, we hope that you will consider
making use of charitable deductions. Your 2015 year-end gift to Trinity United
Church of Christ would be a tax-deductible donation that can reduce your
income tax obligation while helping to provide the financial resources that
support our ministry. Make sure that the check is dated by December 31, 2015;
if you gifts are sent via mail, please make sure your envelope is postmarked by
December 31, 2015. Doing so, your gift will qualify as a 2015 gift, even if it is
not received until the first week of 2016.

The Situation Room

There will never be any peace until God is at the
conference table.

Eugene Record, lead singer of the Chi-Lites

Kurt Summers appears keenly aware of the situation in certain parts of the city. In an inspiring call-toaction speech at the City Club of Chicago recently, the new City Treasurer spoke passionately about the
lack of investment at its core, as the root of the problems communities face in lockstep with the litany of
social, economic, and civic injustices relegated to those same neighborhoods.
Make no mistake. Affordable housing, quality retail, food security, adequate healthcare, 21st century
education, safe neighborhoods, cultural institutions, and economic development are all civil rights
issues. The issues that have come to light the last several weeks stem from violations across the board in
Washington Heights and serve as the impetus for Endeleos work in Health, Education, and Community
Development.
The photo of the Situation Room at the White House is the space where President Obama and his team
of advisers strategize and plan around issues that he knows cant be solved alone. The complexity of the
problems plaguing our community will likewise require a massive team effort. Pastor Moss was astute
in his remarks about the power of our young activists coupled with the wisdom of our more seasoned
servants. As this year comes to a merciful close, please consider how you can be of service to our church
home community of Washington Heights (regardless of whether you live here).
Go to our website, click on Endeleo Ambassadors and choose which area you which to serve. Then have
a seat (and a say) at the table.
P.S. Dont forget about #GivingTuesday! You can still support us. Just go to our website endeleoinstitute.

Here in Washington Heights, (not D.C.) we have ourselves a situation. The violent, untimely, and tragic
death of one of our promising young people underscores decades of crime, high unemployment, poor
health, and educational underachievement, food insecurity, and economic despair. This otherwise stable,
but economically stagnant community, has long been plagued by blight and intentional disinvestment,
particularly along the 95th Street Corridor leading to the CTA Redline, one of the busiest transit stations in
the city.

A CELEBRATION OF FAMILY, COMMUNITY, AND CULTURE

Sunday, December 27, 2015

6:00 p.m.
What is Kwanzaa?

Created by Dr. Maulana Karenga in 1966, KWANZAA comes from the Swahili word
KWANZA, which means first and is part of the phrase, Matunda ya Kwanzaa (First
Fruits). This celebration of harvesting the first crops, or fruits, is an AFRICAN tradition,
where people gather to make joyful noises, give thanks, enjoy the blessings of life, and
act together for the communitys sake.
Bring your entire family to share in Worship, Fun, Food, and Fellowship!
