The Eiken is an English language test by the Eiken foundation of Japan and is
the country's leading language assessment. More than 2 million people take
the exam annually and it comprises two stages. The first (vocabulary,
reading, listening, and writing) and the second stage (speaking).
There are seven levels which are called grades, also the beginner grades 4
and 5 are not supposed to do the speaking part.

In the 1st stage, the students are exposed to a wide range of texts and
content from various social, educational and professional situations, while in
the 2nd stage the students can understand understand lengthy expository
texts and find information within them and also can understand explanations
related to everyday life situations.

There are 7 levels in Eiken.

Grade 1 = Advanced
Grade pre1 = Upper Intermediate level.
Grade 2 = Intermediate
Grade pre2 = Pre-Intermediate
Grade 3 = Upper-Beginner
Grade 4 = Beginner
Grade 5 = Entry
