Target Audience

My target audience consists of 15-25 year olds, both male and female; however, my
BBFC begins at 12A. This is because I dont think the production itself contains
anything that isnt suitable for someone around the age of 12 or 13. On the other
hand, anyone under the age of 12 wouldnt be suitable enough to understand whats
actually going on in the scene. As well as this, due to the kissing scene and the
slapping scene it may be inappropriate to teach a younger audience to handle their
situations through violence as they may be quite susceptible to learning this
behaviour. The average age teens begin dating is around 16 however most serious
relationships begin at the age of 20+. Although this is the case, I felt that in terms of
the content it is very much suitable for younger ages however as that is the average
dating age, my target audience is more around 15. The reason why my target
audience goes up to the age of 25 is due to the fact that the scene is set in an
educational environment between two young women that are still in full time
education and I feel that anyone older may not be as interested as audiences usually
like to identify with the characters and due to a big age difference, this may be
harder for those above the age of 25.
I also believe that the drama element of this short film enables the male gender to
show some interest even if it isnt as interesting for them because of the romantic
side to the story. As well as this because the relationship between the two main
characters is of a homosexual nature, it offers something that is a lot more accepted
now and as a result may be somewhat more interesting for the male gender as it is
unexpected and is introduced by the passion between the two women that comes
through from their body language towards each other. However, I still think that the
conversation and emotive side to it would favour the female gender and they may be
more able to identify with the characters and therefore be able to empathise with
them a lot more. Women tend to generally prefer films of this genre, especially when
they have the romantic element therefore I expect women to enjoy the production
more.
In terms of socio-economic groups, I generally expect those in categories from B to
E to be interested in my film. This is because I feel that my film has a very wide
target audience and is generally suited to the wider population. However, this does
not mean I am to exclude anyone from category A to watch the film it just means that
I feel the main groups that will have an interest in my production would be those in
the groups ranging from B to E. I believe they may be more from a younger age
category and may therefore fit into category E of more unemployed however, they
may also fit into B as I feel like some young teachers or managers may be interested
as they may be in a relationship or have previous experience in a relationship and
may therefore understand the situation between the two main characters.
