Together they are the non- duality of mind and object. They represent emptiness from ego leading to enlightenment (Buddhist nirvana). Once achieved, enlightenment releases the Be-ing from the wheel of incarnation. * The symbols were not originally used for healing, a worldly application. They were used to attain the five levels of wisdom culminating in enlightenment © Chokurei (PHYSICAL) The beginning or entrance; the generation stage. Place the mandala into the heart and/or meditate on Chokurei. Meditate until there is no difference between meditation and the world. Become empty and release all attachments to the earth plane. This is the first step, the first experience. (Reiki definition: light switch.) © Seiheiki (EMOTIONAL) Transforming the emotions and emptying oneself of ego is the second stage on the Buddhist path. Emotion creates attachment creates karma. “Impurities” are transformed into wisdom, as the truth of the Void is perceived. Although Enlightenment is possible for everyone, few people achieve this stage of development—it is the Buddha status. The Buddha is the union of the One and the Many, and exists as the true nature of all Be-ings. (Reiki definition: emotional healing, cleansing protection, purification.) © Honshazeshonen (MENTAL) No past, no present, no future, Freedom from delusion and karma, “the action of the mind.” The mind creates time, space, limitation, and delusion. Enlightenment is going beyond the mind to the Buddha nature within all of us (the God and/or Goddess within). When the mind is aware, there is openness and release: freedom from time, space, delusion, and limitation. The dissolution of limitation means the understanding of all things. (Reiki definition: healing past, present, and future; healing karma; distance healing.) 0 Daikomeo (SPIRITUAL) “The one with the Mahayana heart of giving.” The person who desires enlightenment for others’ sake and who will achieve it. Great unification is the basis for all things. When one becomes enlightened, one is freed from incarnation and suffering. In Buddhism this is the only real healing. (Reiki definition: healing the soul.) © Raku (PATH TO ENLIGHTENMENT) Completion, achievement of lower nirvana, emptiness of self and existence. The appearance of the image of Buddha within the Self, Freedom, enlightenment, total peace. Release from the illusion of the material world, release from the body and incarnation, total healing. In Buddhism this symbol is used in the direction of the feet to the crown to take one out of the body; in Reiki it is used from the crown to feet for grounding and to draw the energy from the universe into the body. Reiki is the worldly use of the symbols. Enlightenment is the spiritual and Buddhist use. Buddhist thought makes the body and healing irrelevant. Here are some reminders to reinforce what we leamed in class. 1. Be sure to give yourself (and others, if appropriate) Reiki treatments as often as you can With continued use, you will become confident about ways in which Reiki energy manifests through you Please drink 6 to 8 oz. glasses of water for the next two to three days, to continue cleansing your body. Be aware that it can take up to thirty days for your body to acclimate itself to the Reiki energy. Each person processes Reiki in their own unique way. During the integration period you may experience one or more of the following occurrencés. They are normal and will dissipate as your body becomes accustomed to the Reiki energy. * Heating or tingling in your hands, This may occur when you simply think of Reiki or when you are in the presence of someone who would benefit from Reiki energy. Only do Reiki when you have offered it and someone has accepted it * A general feeling of being scattered, fuzzy, or ungrounded as a result of clearing or integration, Treat yourself gently during this period. Reiki self treatments will help ground and focus your attention. * An increase in your intuitive abilities. Attunement opens a channel within you to accept the Reiki energy. This open channel may create increased. ‘awareness on your part, REIKI I: HOW TO DO A REIKI SESSION Prepare the room--have a comfortable space to do your Reiki session. Light music & candles make a nice touch. Gain rapport with your client; explain what you are going to do & that however they experience or notice the Reiki energy is perfectly okay. Explain that people tend to really relax & thatsome People even fall asleep. When working on someone with whom you are not in a close, personal relationship please keep your hands in the air above the heart, reproductive & root chakras ‘Wash your hands immediately before touching the person. Always remember to ask the person ifthey would prefer hands on or off, Set your intention. Send Love & Light throughout the session, Remember to have fun! Doa scan of the body from head to toe, noticing hot/cold spots or any other sensations. Certain spots will seem to pull more energy. Trust the information that you get, you are starting to work with your intuition, Begin at the head area, follow the hand position chart. Continue to observe the person noticing if they are comfortable. Let them know that you can adjust your hand positions to make them more comfoniable if need be Your hand pressure should be a light touch or 2 to 5 inches above the body (for hands off) Keep sour hands closed & touching when possible Wait for the peak before moving to the next hand postion Refer to the hand position chart * Head area Front the first hand poston Side if you want you can also cover the person’s ears Back: have them raise their head & place your hands undemeath head * Crown: when doing a full session, both front & back, the crown will be the last hand position. It is our experience that when we end with the crown the person feels a bit floaty or spacey. This may not be the case for everyone. We do recommend in a full session to start at the top of the head & end at the feet on each side. Feel free to experiment with this. * Throat chakra: you might want to have hands above, watch client or ask to make sure that they are comfortable. * High heart: hands can be above person in the air to make sure they're comfortable. What is your rapport with the client & their comfort level? * Low heart: same info as above applies * Solar plexus: hands touch one another finger tips of one to palm of the other * Reproductive: at this point you let the client know that you will also be hands off * Root can be done hands on (only if with someone you're intimate with). Done hands off with clients night above the root or from between the knees with hands angled upward. * Knee & ankle you can do both knees at once or both ankles at once or do one of each on each side * Feet can be done individually (one hand on heel, other on top) of together, its your personal preference If the client has a particular spot where they want work, you can work on it afier the full session is done or when you are near the area Example’ if the person has a sore right hand you can work on it afier doing the solar plexus or towards the end of the session or not at all. The Reiki energy knows where to go & where the person needs tt When doing a session you might experience sensations reflective of the client's experience. It its an uncomfortable feeling, remember that its their stuff & by simply & gently disconnecting your hands those feelings will dissipate Then you can continue on with the session easily & comfortably “Brushing the crumbs" 1s simply to close the aura, smoothing it out, repacking itso its full, firm and fluffy. Remember to have to person drink extra water, 6-8 802, Glasses for the next 2-3 days, Tell them. their body is ready to release what its been holding & the water helps to easily flush it out. 1 session? A full session can take from 1 to 1'% hours Head to feet on their front and head to feet on their back (this is what we recommend) ‘Only doing certain parts, is okay, if its all that time allows. Some Reiki is better than none at all. Its much nicer, & perhaps more ecological, for the person to get a full session, particularly the first time they receive Reiki. Setting your intention: This is a very important part of your Reiki session. You can be even more specific to an area ofa person’s life or health situation. Feel free to use your own words when setung your intention ‘The following are just samples for your guidance. Isend you this Reiki energy for your overall health & well- being. If you are willing and able to receive it. so be it, if not let it go back to the universe where it came from Or I send you this Reiki energy so that you can heal (fill in area of concern), if you are willing and able to receive it, so be it, if not let it return to the universe where it came from. SCANNING Scanning 1s done by placing one of your hands (generally the non-dominant hand) about 12" away trom the top of the person's head Set the intention of being guided to the place where the person needs Reiki Place your consciousness in the palm of your hand and notice what you notice Then move your hand closer to about 3"-4" away from the body and begin moving your hand over the person's body’ down towards theit feet. As your move your hand slowly notice any changes 1n the energy 1n the palm of your hand. When you notice any changes, then you know this 1s a place where the person needs Reiki. It is possible you may experience warmth, pulsating, magnetic pull, electrical shocks, coolness, tingling, etc. Remember the sensation may be slight and this a skill that develops over time with Practice. As soon as you find spots where there are changes in the energy, then you can immediately treat it or you can go back to it during your full session. This ‘technique can be useful when you don’t have sufficient time to do a full session and would like to focus only on the needed areas, For more information on scanning and other uses see the William Lee Rand book, “Reiki, The Healing Touch” pgs. 48-50, BEAMING Beaming is useful for treating the whole aura with Reiki, before entering the physical body. You can also beam a specific area. You can direct the energy with your eyes by focusing your visual attention on that part of the body. It is our opinion that you can use the long distance healing symbol to beam someone, but it is not necessary. Beaming is done by using your hands as if they were 2 radar dishes palms out towards your client. Beaming can be done at the end of a Reiki treatment or by itself. For more information on Beaming see William Lee Rand’s book, “Reiki, The Healing Touch” pe.52
