Leaving is a short story about a teen boy named Aloo.

He is a very bright young boy

who happened to have this ambition of studying abroad as he is inspired by his
former teacher, Mr. Datoo to think of furthering in medicine in America. Aloo is
offered by the local university to study agriculture but he refused. He wants to go
abroad and study medicine in America. However, his mother is reluctant to let him
go because his mother does not have enough money and afraid she might lose her
son. She has seen a few people who returned from abroad and lost their culture.
She does not want that to happen to Aloo. Finally, on the advice of a school officer
Mr. Velji, his mother willing to let Aloo go to America and further his education
overseas. Aloo sent his first letter that talked about the new and exciting things he
saw to his mother who is wondering if he is going to return home or not.
