Diese im Jabre 1759 in Berlin kompo- nierte g-moll-Sonate fuhrt Alfted Wotquenne in seinem Thematischen Verzeichnis der Werke von Ph, E, Bach als SONATA a Cembato obligato ¢ Viola (Wa 88). Das Autograph Bachs, welches die Staatsbibliothek Berlin unter der Signatur Mus. ms. autogr, Bach P 357 verwahre, ist betitelt mit Trio Nr. 24 / Viola da Gamba / Cembato. In dieser Handschrift wird der Tonumfang der Viola im ersten Satz in den Takten 29 und 97 unter- schritten. Kine weitere handschriftliche Quelle des Sticks befindet sich unter der Nr. 3635 in der Bibliothéque des Conservatoire Royal de Musique in Brissel, betitet als SONATA /per il / Cembalo /# Vioia. in ihr weisen die Takte 29/97 im 1. Satz die oktavierte Notierung auf. Ob nun von der Bratsche oder (noch) von der Viola da gamba ausgefuhrr, das mit seinen ,ein- gestreuten" GeneralbaSpassagen aus dem Barack sich ldsende prachtvolle und spielfreudige Werk kinder aufs schénste vom vorklassischen ,,Sturm und Drang" und seiner der Empfindsamkeit ver pflichteten neuen Klangsprache eines subjektiven homophonen Stils. Besides 8 Sonatas for violin and § Sonatas for flute and harpsichord, Carl Philipp Emanvel Bach also wrote a Sonata for viola and obbli gato harpsichord. This Sonata in g minor, com- posed in 1759 in Berlin, is listed as SONATA 4 Cembalo obligato ¢ viola (Wa 88) in Alfred Wotquenne’s Thematic Index of the works of .Ph. E, Bach. Bach's autograph, kept under shelimark Mus. ms. autogr. Bach P357 in the Berlin Staatsbibliothek, bears the title “Trio Nr. 24/ Viola da Gamba / Cembalo”. In this manuscript measures 29 and 97 of the first movement reach below the range of the viola.
