A TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE FOR AI Wwe HERITAGE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL im ke S sel sl EEE Cyrene, VA 24502 cc (454) 582-10 © Fae G43) 582 173 LYNCHBURG CITY SCHOOLS soe lesa net hon hes March 7, 2014 Tt has been my pleasure to meet and work with Kayla Martin during the past seven weeks as her cooperating teacher. Kayla has taught three classes of fifth graders heterogeneously grouped for science, She has instructed fifth graders grouped homogeneously in a high-achieving math group as well as a heterogeneous reading class. Miss Martin has been strong in each capacity, exhibiting smooth transition from one group to another. Miss Martin is caring with students, yet she maintains persistent effort for firm classroom control, Classroom rules were enforced in a firm and factual manner. She consistently participated in the school-wide PBLS program which involved recognizing student positives or needs for improvement using “clipping up ‘or down” on a classroom chart. I was pleased to consistently observe her willingness to help and accommodate those with academic difficulties, Monitoring and adjusting were strong points in all class settings as were high expectations for quality work, Good planning, coupled with resourceful instruction, makes Miss Martin an effective student teacher! In addition, Kayla is a quick thinker and can make. decisions based on good judgment and individual needs. Miss Martin's varied teaching experiences will certainly help to ensure her success in the elementary classroom. As she practiced within our classroom community, she needed minimal guidance with planning, questioning and classroom management. Her instruction was relevant and meaningful, Her supervision was controlling yet respectful. The incorporation of technology, as well as small- group activities, enhanced lessons for the variety of learners in a challenging elementary classroom community. Miss Martin exhibits qualities of morality, professionalism, and caring for mankind. She readily accepts tasks and constructive suggestions, She fulfills obligations with commitment, always with advance preparation and thoughts of evaluation for improvement. Tt is my honest opinion that Kayla Martin would be an asset to any school system, She will work diligently to be a strong teacher of our future citizens. Sincerely yours, Gail M.
