beenalotofconfusionandanongoingdebateaboutJayceandwhatisthemostoptimalwayto
playhim/buildhiminthecurrentmeta.Theaimofthisguideistohelppeoplelearnmoreabout
the"DefenderofTomorrow",Jayce,andunderstandhiscurrentroleandidentityinthegame.
ThisguideisnotsimplydirectedtowardsJaycemains.Itisdirectedtoeveryplayeroutthere,

fewyears(fromlowtohighdiamond)inEUW,EUNEandNAserver.Iamcurrentlyresidingin
DiamondV(asIdidn'thaveenoughtimetocommitandclimbhigher)andItestchampionsfor
thesakeoftheorycraftingandinordertogetreadyforthenewseason.Myexperiencessofar
drovemetowritethisguideforaverydearfriendthatrecentlystartedplayingLeagueandshe

fellinlovewithJayce.Afterseeingmyguidesheurgedmetopublishitdespitemyinitial
hesitation,becauseitisbetterifthatsmallcontributionbringssmilesinthefacesofmorepeople.
WhyJayce?
IfirststartedplayingJaycebecauseofhisherolikenature:"TheDefenderofTomorrowthat
willmakesuretocreateabrighterfuture"!
Moreover,hisloadedkitandhishighdifficultytoplayproperlyandmasterweresomeofthe
determinantfactorsthaturgedmetopickupthischampion.Ihaveregisteredover500kmastery

(andothermechanicallydifficultchampions),Jayceisveryunforgivinganditwilltakemany
hoursandgamesofpracticeinordertobeabletostandinlaneasaworthyopponent.Hiscurrent
lowwinrateisverymisleadinganddoesnotrepresentthetruth.Surely,Jaycehasseenhigher
highsinthepast,butevennowheisatadecentspotunlikehowpeoplemakeitappear.

InpreviousseasonsJayceusedtobeplayedmostlyasapokechampion(despitehisvery
versatilekit).TheitemizationwasoneofthehighestcontributingfactorstothatasMuramana,
BrutalizerandLastWhisperusedtobereallystrongandsynergizeperfectlywellwitheach
other.Withthenewchanges,theremovalofBrutalizer(orratherthesplittingofitintwo
differentitems),theslightincreaseofMuramana'sprice,thechangesinthepaceofthegame,but
moreimportantlythehugenerftoLastWhisperfromhavingitignorea%ofthetarget's
total
armor
tohavingitignoreonlya%ofthetarget's
bonusarmor
,Jayce(andnotonly)washeavily
affected.Manyplayersrushedtoconclusionthatthesechangescompletelyruinedtheidentityof
Jayceandtheyabandonedhim.WhilethefaithfulJaycemainsdecidedtostaystronglikeatree
inthewindandexperimenttilltheyfindwhatisthemostoptimalpathtoplayJayceinthisnew
season.
ItshouldbewisetotalkabitabouttheidentityofJayceasachampion.AsIalready
mentionedabove,Jayce'sstrengthdoesnotprimarilylieinthehighADratiosofhisaccelerated
ShockBlast(QEcombo),butratherinhisversatilitytoadjustindifferentsituations(kitwise

andbuildwise).Unfortunately,fortoolongJaycewaslabeledandplayedpurelyasapoke

reasonwhyplayershavebeenrushingthisitemisnotjusttosolvethemanaissuescausedby
constantpokinganduseofthefullrotation,butitsgoldefficiencyandhowwellitsynergizes
withJayce'soverallkit(includingtheQEpoke).Oncefullystacked,Muramanabecomesthe
mostgoldefficientADitemingame.Itspassive,however,iswhatmakesthemagichappenby
amplifyingourcomboandbasicattacksdamagebasedonourmana.Thepreseasonchanges

that,overall,madetheitemanevenmoreappealingchoiceforJayce.Firstofall,itprovidesyou
with20%criticalstrikechange(upfrom10%).Ifyoucombinethatbonuscritchancewith
EssenceReaver,yougeta+10%CDR.Moreover,itnowgrantsa10%CDRbydefaultwhichis
hugeforJayceforthereasonweexplainedpreviously.That10%CDRderivesfromthenew
Sheen,whichnolongergrantsabilitypower(abilitypowerisremovedfromTrinityForce)
