R&J Discussion Board: Blame Game

I believe that Friar Laurence is to blame for the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. In lines
94-107 in Act 4 Scene 1 the Friar reveals his plan for Juliet to take the potion and
fake her death. This ultimately leads to the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet's death due
to the misunderstanding about the plan of Romeo never receiving the letter that
Friar Laurence was supposed to send. In lines 57-94 in Act 2 Scene 3 the Friar
agrees to marry Romeo and Juliet even though there are many signs that point to
this being a bad idea. He follows through with it anyways for his selfish reason of
hopefully reuniting the two families. The marriage ultimately sets the play up for
tragedy. I think that this relates to the theme "Women may fall when there's no
strength in men" because of how Juliet died from Friar Laurence failing to protect
her and Romeo's marriage with his plan which would lead Romeo to fall and
eventually kill himself thus leaving Juliet alone to face her problems by killing
herself too.
