Artifact Reflection

Title of Artifact: PLC Norms

Date Completed: December 2014
Artifact Description
The artifact is a list of norms from our professional learning community group.
Wisconsin Teacher Standard Alignment
The artifact best aligns with standard 10, Collaboration: Teachers are connected with other teachers and the
community which states, The teacher fosters relationships with school colleagues, parents, and agencies in the
larger community to support pupil learning and well-being and acts with integrity, fairness and in an ethical
manner.
The artifact aligns with the standard because the PLC group is a collaborative group that works together to
improve aspects of our school. We are a group of 6 different teachers that come together to discuss different
topics related to academics and school procedures, to name a few. Being unbiased, fair and ethical, we discuss
these things so that we can try to make our students better learners. Although at times we may not agree on a
topic, we have to stop and think about who we are working form and think about what is in the best interest of
the students.
UWP Knowledge, Skill, Disposition Statement Alignment
The artifact best aligns with KSD4.d, Contributes to the school and district, which states, The candidate is able
to assume a leadership role among colleagues and is supportive and cooperative with peers and volunteers, and
serves as a participant and leader in school events and school and district projects.
The artifact aligns with the stated standard because in the PLC group, we all are supposed to take turns to be the
leader. We each take part in the group and agree to participate equally. We work together to address specific
issues or goals. Ultimately, we are part of a team that works together for a bigger goal of improving the school
district as a whole.
What I learned about teaching/learning from this experience:
As a teacher, we should always want the best for our students. When we work in the PLC groups, we are
looking to improve some aspect of the educational environment and that means we are going to create
something positive for our students. In the PLC group, we might not always agree on things. When that time
comes, it is important to take a step back and understand what we are working for.
What I learned about myself as a prospective educator as a result of this experience/artifact:
I learned that I can work well as part of a collaborative group. I can take charge and be a leader within the
group. When someone has a thought or idea, I can be open minded and consider all points of view. Being
supportive of others in their right to have their own ideas is important.
