The Effectiveness of Soursop Leaves to Lower Blood Pressure Among Hypertensive Residents
of Barangay Arroyo Compound in Davao City
II. Proposed Study
A. Brief Background
Hypertension is one of the leading causes of death around the world. Its prevalence is higher in
countries with a low economic status which is why it is very useful to come up with an
affordable alternative on treating or reducing the complications of high blood pressure (WHO,
2014). An experiment on Soursop or Guyabano fruit has been conducted in animals and
manifested positive results on lowering blood pressure and curing cancer however experiments
using humans as respondents has not been done yet. (Martino, 2013)
On the community setting, many residents have been growing Soursop trees and believe that it is
very effective in lowering their blood pressure. Soursop or Guyabano may indeed have natural
anti-hypertensive factors and it should be studied on further.
B. Statement of the Problem, Objectives of the Study
This experimental research aims to determine the effectiveness of Soursop on Lowering the
Blood Pressure. Specifically, the experiment will answer the following question:
1. Was there a change in the blood pressure of the respondents after taking the preparation of
Soursop leaves for three weeks?
a. increase?
b. decrease?
C. Methodology
Respondents: Hypertensive residents of Arroyo Compound
Sampling: 30 respondents
Data Collection:

Consent to conduct experiment will be obtained from the respondents


Respondent will take boiled soursop leaves twice a days for 3 weeks
Changes on blood pressure will be noted and compared
